Hey guys. can some of you help me out?

I bought my M50-MX5 from Staples Canada couple months ago.

It's making strange high-frequency sounds from the left side (near the Esc key). Anyone know what tha hell it is? It seems be worse when I scroll my browser page up and down. It's not the fan, and it definitely isn't the hard drive. as I said, it's very high-frequenceey kinda sound.

It's not too noisy, but is bugging me.

It might be the MOBO - does it happen when you're charging, plugged in, but fully charged, discharging, or all of the time?

    hey,

could you tell me what MOBO means??

I almost always leave my charger on, so the sound happens when charging for sure. I don't know about other times. The AC adapter makes a similar sound, but it's clearly a different one....

Next time I use the laptop i'll make sure to unplug my AC adapter and see if I still get the sound. Thanks.

ok. thanks. it's a very quiet noise, but I was just curious. It almost sounds like a cricket chirping.

    shouldn't be much of a problem......................................right?

Has it only just started making the noise?

If it has done it from day one I wouldn't worry, but I'd be a little concerned if it just started doing it.

Are you sure it's not from the processor fan?

I'm not sure about anything. However, it doesn't seem like the fan to me. the Fan sounds like......a fan right?

this sound is a high-pitched cricket-like sound that comes about independently of the fan noise.

I still think it's the Motherboard. Some other models (M40/M45/M35X) have had similar noises coming from their motherboards as well. I'd keep and eye on the problem and see if it gets worse - if it does, it means you may have a defective motherboard and will need to get your notebook serviced.

I got the sound last night, but it was only when it was off and charging, so yeah, dunno if it's any help or not.

This sound is caused by cheap capacitor. Not sure if you can change it.

Its a shame you have this issue but I hope potential buyers of this machine are not scared off by this issue. I have so far no trace of his or any other issues that M50/M55 owners have complained about.

So far, I only have to mildly complain about the fan noise, which I'm sure can be fixed anyways with some tweaking. Its been a wonderful machine for me so far!

If its a high pitched squealing sound, its most definately the built in speakers. On my last notebook, if you rubbed your finger along the speakers (with the WiFi activated) it would make this sound. I know what you mean it is very annoying
