So far, I'm liking the R600. Some problems with the outdoor display key, but it's VMware causing the conflict under Windows 7. It was working prior to me installing VMware Workstation. To be honest, it's not a feature I plan on using since I don't generally sit outside and use my laptop, but I did try it a bit before losing the functionality and it was neat.

    Congratulations.

I'm interested in your observations on the battery life and fan noise. I've got the R500 as my portable but it gets a bit hot and noisy when given any work to do.

There is a little fan noise when it gets hot or I'm really pushing it, but nothing out of the ordinary to be honest. At least not in my experience.

I've pretty much had my computer on since mid-day yesterday and the left side is a bit warm, but not too bad or unexpected. The right side is as cool as a cucumber.

Yesterday was the first day I used it on battery life when I was onsite at a client, and it was about 6 hours. I haven't tried to optimize it too much but I'll tweak it. I could always get somewhere between 7 and 9 with my Sony G with a similar sized battery, so I'm hoping I get the same.

My G's battery performance was impressive. I wondered whether Sony paid extra for the CPUs with lowest power leakage.

I can get 7 - 9 with my Z (extended battery) depending on what I'm doing, so I think it's more Sony's engineering than anything else. Even the SZ had good battery life when I used it.

I'm taking the R600 on two business trips in the next few weeks, and that will be the real test.
