Have you tried connecting to an external monitor (desktop CRT, LCD, or TV)? If nothing displays on the external monitor either, you've likely got a graphics card issue. If the external display works fine but you cannot get any display on the laptop screen, it's likely an issue with the screen. Either way you'll probably need to send it in to be fixed.

While you're at it though, make sure you hear fans and the hard drive spinning during startup. If you hear that, it's almost certainly one of the above two problems. Provided that I am interpreting correctly that you get absolutely no display, not even the BIOS startup screen that pops up right after turning it on.

Give us more details. You could have a serious thing like dying graphics card/LCD to a minor thing like being stuck in power-saving mode.

Like the previous poster mentioned, does it POST normally when you first turn it on and boot to the logon screen? When does the blackout happen?

My screen goes off and then back on and then off and then back on about one Minute after boot up on my a135 s4467. It's only off for about second. After than everything is ok.
I took it back to Best Buy and the Geeks said there was nothing wrong.

Your screen flickering sounds like a different issue than his, but still weird nonetheless. Another thing is, yours has an Intel CPU w/ Intel GMA 950 video and his has an AMD CPU w/ ATI Radeon X1200 video...so comparing apples to oranges there, about the only thing they have in common is they're both Toshibas.

I have an A215-S5808 AMD w/ Radeon X1200 and it doesn't blackout at all, no matter what I'm doing.

The only thing I've read regarding screens blacking out was some Toshiba models having to be set on High Performance power mode so the cpu stays at 100% or else the screen would black out due to the cpu/gpu not running at a fast enough speed when watching DVD's and other things. Mine is plugged in 99% of the time so it stays set to High Performance power mode.

This problem is has plaged the A210-215 since it's introduction.
The system just shuts down and becomes unresponsive.
The only thing to do is restart the computer.
If you go to www.circuitcity.com or www.bestbuy.com, you can read all the
A215 models that this has happened to, lots of angry customers.
So far Toshiba's pathetic answer is to set processor power to 100%, this seems to help, but isn't quite the fix customers are looking for.
But it dawned on me that Fujitsu, Hp, Acer and others use AMD Turions and they don't have that issue. It must lie somewhere, but for some reason it can't be pin-pointed.
Look through this toshiba forum, you will find some possible solutions...
good luck to you. I hope a legit fix comes along.
come to think of it, why after all this time has toshiba let this carry on for so long.

I sent mine to 100% and it didn't make any difference.
Another part of it is I can be typing when this happens and it doesn't effect the typing. What I am doing is there as if the screen didn't flicker.

I don't even think the most hardcore hippies in California would complain about the power consumption of my laptop...and if they did, that's even more reason to leave it on High Performance. :D

Actually, yeah I do. When I'm using it I want it running at peak performance just like my desktops. A common misconception is laptops are more fragile than desktops as far as longevity. While that is true in regards to how much physical abuse they can take, they can run at 100% with no problems at all....that's what they were designed to run at.

Just like it says, power settings are for just that... power. If you are running off of AC power the battery is out of the equation so you should be running at 100% performance.

Of course the power saving option is on desktops too, I never said it wasn't.

Of all the things running in my home, my computers are at the bottom of the list as far as energy consumption goes. It costs me roughly $8/month, or about $100/year to leave my computers on 24/7. If you can't afford that you need a new job. Besides, even with my computers running 24/7 I have a lower electric bill than anyone I know around my area.

Unless you're a tree-hugging hippy (which I'm the opposite of) the savings using power saving modes on your computers doesn't amount to anything.

Take a trick out of my book and turn your A/C thermostat up a couple of degrees, you'll save way more that way. 50% or more of the power consumption in your home is heating & cooling.

I had this problem, too. Is your computer new?

The way I fixed mine was to download an updated driver for my graphics card. Find out what kind you have, go to the company site, and look for an updated driver. Hopefully this is all your problem is.

If you've had it a while and you do a lot of video watching on your computer, then your graphics card may be burning out or your monitor is going out.

Try the updated driver first to see if it works.

    Hi

I am using a HP Laptop, newly purchased (Just 3 months back) from USA with latest configurations. I tried to connect it to my LG Flatron TV (also newly purchased 2 months back). For the first time it got connected. Again I am trying to connect it to watch a movie almost after a month it displays "power saving mode" with the power button of the TV turning light orange colour.
The screen goes completely black. I tried connecting it many times, my laptop is in balanced power mode and fully charged. Also all the plugs are fitted properly..

Is there any solution to this.....

    Regards
