I'm looking at getting one the NB305-410, I'm also considering getting the additional 2GB RAM for it. My question is, is it worth it? how much of a boost could I expect for the usual netbook activities?

Hey,
That Toshiba mini will come with an operating system called "Window 7 Starter". This is very light in hardware demands compared with the other released copies of Windows 7.
I haven't used a Mini before which had more than 1GB of RAM but, they've all ran fine on Windows 7 Starter and 1GB.
For most people 1GB has been fine so far with Minis because they're generally using them for internet surfing - checking e-mail and facebook etc. If this is all that you're going to be doing, you will be fine without paying extra for the RAM slot to be taken up with 2GB.
The mini's only have 1 RAM slot. If you're going to be pushing the Mini to it's limits, then it's worthwhile having that slot be taken by a 2GB piece of RAM.
If you choose not to do this and buy it, then you can upgrade the one slot later yourself with a phillips screwdriver relatively easily. -
I have the NB205-311/W and I upgraded it 2 GB of RAM and put a 128GB SSD and replaced the WiFi/Bluetooth Mini-pci with a Broadcom Crystal HD Decoder so I have a pretty screaming thin and light!!!
$300 for the Netbook
$20 for the RAM Upgrade
$200 for the SSD
$50 for the HD Decoder
$30 for replacement mini-USB WLAN
