Even if it was lighter, its build will probably not compare to the Apple or Lenovo

I just finished writing in another thread that having the most good-looking or lightest laptop is pointless considering the rate of advancement in computer technologies. Users should just get the hardware that get the job done. Buying fancy crap like the MacBook Air or this Toshiba is usually an extravangant waste of money.

It may be the lightest notebook, but it sure isn't the cheapest with a starting price of around $2500!

Why is Toshiba relaunching a 1 YO laptop? Have they realised that they didn't get enough attention when this was first launched due to poor marketing efforts and wants to leverage on the publicity generated by the MBA and X300 now that those have made "thin" laptops popular?

This is a 12" ultraportable, so it's not exactly in the same class.

$2999?? ouch. i never have favored the ultra thin laptop. to me it seems like if they're cramming all that stuff into that small of a space, they're skipping on something, whether it be functional things or ventilation/cooling methods. that's what has always scared me about getting one, oh and the price is pretty scary too!

Its the build quality. In the review, the plastic is described as very flexible and of low quality

You are all missing the point.. the $2999 is the one with a 128GB SSD... The claim is the lightest with the 128GB SSD. They have the R500's starting at $1699 with no optical, and $1999 with a 160GB Standard Drive with a Builtin DVD Burner.. Which Neither Apple or Lenovo have..

Apple's unit at +3lbs does not have an optical but is a 13.3" screen.
