just a few notes, i converted to XP sort of, i did a dual boot
, and it works, the ati radeon card (presumably x1200 variety) drivers DO NOT WORK from the ati site however can be made to work
as follows, if you download version 7.9 catalyst (7-9-igp_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_52443 for ati x1200 xp), then download dot net framework (dotnetfx3) or higher from MS downloads, then download msxml4-KB927978-enu (also MS downloads) then download ati_mobility, ok we have our files,
install .net framework
then install msxml
then install /extract ati radeon, it will give an error eventually, just keep reading this,
ok the tricky part, run ati mobility, do as instructed, remember, you are pointing the program at the whole folder, not just the driver, this program alters the files to make them compatible, and it works, re-run the install and smile:d you got it after how many hours?of screwing with it?
ok, now gimme your utility driver file links, :d , it gets worse hang on.
i set up a dual boot, so remember if you do that to point the drivers to D drive, or whatever your XP partition is. may god be with you.
if ya wanna do a dual boot with both of the op system, i can tell ya, just ask, its easy.

Any guidance you are willing to offer would be greatly appreciated. From my reading, it seems like everyone is looking for this kind of help. No one wants that dog, AKA: VISTA. -
ok, i'm gonna get the info for a dual boot, i assume you have a vista OEM setup, vista should be installed first,
necessary files for dual boot:
box version of XP, oem discs from another computer wont work
dot net framework 2.0 or higher
vista boot pro 3.3(freeware)
add a second partition of at least 4 gigs, designate it "D" drive, you can do this in vista. or just "unallocate" the space using the hardware manager, the op system will ask you where to put the software at.
make sure you have all of this extra stuff on a flash drive, the SD card reader wont work till you get the drivers for it
install xp, on D drive (or unallocated space, it will then designate as D drive)
then install dotnet 2.0,
then install boot pro 3.3 (at this point only xp will boot)
setup boot pro with vista as the default op system, restart, xp will refuse to boot giving "ntldr file not found" so boot vista
insert your xp disc, search for "ntldr", copy and open your XP partition (D drive) insert a copy right in the main drive with the other folders, i put a copy in "D" "SYSTEM" and SYSTEM 32 just to be sure, not had a problem since.
now is the fun part, finding all the drivers for your system. i have ATI catalyst 7.9, atheros drivers for wifi, realtek sound drivers installed, looking for the rest, any help out there? thanks -
one thing i forgot to mention, if you have info on drivers, post the file name to make it easier to find a specific file, example, ati radeon 7.9 file name is 7-9-igp_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_sb_gart_enu_52443, it helps finding the right driver easier, thanks
in that spirit, here are the drivers i found so far RTL8168B_Windows_668_0605 (ethernet drivers)
xp32-5.3.0.35-whql (atheros drivers, actually lenovo drivers that share a chipset)
WDM_R178 (hd audio realtek)
need :common modules, pci express drivers, sd card reader drivers (i know its made by Texas Instruments)
your help will be appreciated.

Success installing video driver on Toshiba Satellite A215-S4697 for XP (downgraded from Vista).
I Will try to retrace my steps...
searched google for Toshiba ati radeon xp
This was one close to the top...
Toshiba Satellite A215-S7428 on Windows XP - The No-Dans Club
RTL8187B is listed by the Windows XP device Manager.
The Display Driver listed by the Detailed Specs for the
Toshiba Satellite A215-S7428 is ATI Radeon X1200M.
went to:
www.nodans.com/index.cfm/2007/10/29/Toshiba-Satellite-A215S7428-on-Windows-XP
...which got me to this driver...
http://drop.io/A215_S7428Drivers
After unzipping, I grabbed the ATI Radeon X1200 folder
(which has CX_52022.inf in it) and
put it high up in my C directory.
Before installing, downloaded this driver too, because it has a file you'll
need...Go to.... http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html
Click on Display Driver and download...7-12_xp32_dd_55811.exe
Then I went to the device manager, went to Display Adapters and
right clicked on ATI Radeon X1200. Then I clicked update driver.
Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)...Next.
Choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install.
Click on "Have Disk".
Browse to location where your CX_52022.inf file exists.
Continue...
It said it couldn't find file...ati2mtag.sys...browse for it in the
2nd driver you downloaded....ATI\SUPPORT\7-12_xp32_dd_55811\Driver\Driver\XP_INF\B_56676
If it says the target file is newer than the source, overwrite it.
Overwrite all files it asks you about.
It said my install was successful, it restarted and all was well.
I hope this works for you. Good luck. Let me know if it does. -
The easyest way is to go to the toshiba website and find a a210 model with the same chipset and win xp pre-installed and download the drivers for it. Worked for me I have a A215-s7462 with a M690V chipset. Hope this helps, don't forget to burn the drivers to a cd or copy them to a flash drive before you formatt.

Ok I'm back after a 6 month hiatus from the forum. never did find the Toshiba common modules, however as for my install of weird and wild drivers to make this toshiba work, its all good baby :d everything is working great. if you have info, PLEASE POST IT! i have spent hours hunting stuff down, and figuring stuff out, and pass this along in the hopes of saving someone some time. please return the favor. i received a private message from someone who has several complete sets of drivers for a few models, the best way to get the drivers to other users is to post file names, and links to those drivers at the OEM site they come from. this is just for safety sake. So if ya have the Toshiba common modules that work on my model (posted above) please post a link, i quit looking for them, however if someone has them great. thanks. any one need any help from me, either send me a PM, or post in the forum.
FOOTNOTE: as for the ati radeon 1200 drivers, 7.9 is what i have, after using radeon mobility to alter the files, is the bomb, multiple monitor support and tons of features, i like the freedon to use it as an entertainment centerpiece with the S Vid or with dual monitors, and all the fun stuff. and remember ati is now property of AMD so you can find support there for some ati cards.

ok now things to think about, you add XP, the best way to NEVER have to install all these things one at a time again (takes a few hours huh?) is to make a FULL backup (click my computer, right click C drive, or whatever your main drive is, [mine is "D"], click properties, tools, and then backup, run the wizard) of your first working clean install. so if you ever have to re install, all ya gotta do is install XP, then run a restore for you backup, which is th same procedure as a backup. keep doing backups, but dont overwrite this one, keep it separate. just a hint to save you time, i have done this procedure a couple times already. this above info is assuming you have SP2. G'day
