    Hello,

I am looking for a desktop replacement in the range of 1200-1300.
Primarily for programming(java, .net), watching movies and music and surfing. Not much of a gaming. a battery life of around 3 hrs. and hoping to use it for the next 3-4 years.

I am primarily looking at Toshiba, HP/compaq.
Any idea if there is a toshiba that fits my bill.
or any other brands i should look for ?

    Thanks
    Ravi

    Ravi,

You could get a Toshiba A6x or an A7x notebook, it may not do the 3hrs, but you should be able to get an extended battery for it to puch it to 3hrs. It will also be fairly heavy (A70 = 8lbs) because of the extended battery and overall size of the unit.

The Toshiba Tecra M2V (US Model) is available for approx $1400. It has a Pentium M CPU so battery life should hit the 3 hour mark, plus you can also get an extended battery to get more runtime. The unit doesn't contain the latest and greatest technology in the market, but it will do what you need it to do, plus it's light.

There are other brands, like Averatec, or eMachines, but they may not fit into the battery or price requirements.
