I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-S100X that I've had for about 2.5 years. I'm running XP SP3, MS Office 2007, Kaspersky Anti-Virus corp edition, and other lesser S/W. I'm a somewhat competent user, as I have a technical background, although not in computer repair![]()
My driver is apparently corrupt because, starting about a week ago, every time I boot up, I get this "New H/W Added" notification (even though I have not added any new hardware) and using the wizard does not find anything. I have no idea where the materials are that came with the laptop so nix reloading the driver from a CD that came with the machine.
In device manager, the drive has the yellow exclamation mark and I have already tried deleting the device as suggested somewhere online. I have also used device manager to update the driver to no avail.
I've been "Googling" for days now and I've found others with the same or similar problem, but have not found a driver to download. I found the resolution on the Microsoft KB for Vista, but their "auto fix" application says it's not for my machine, or something similar.
Any other suggestions or a URL for downloading a new driver?

Are you googling the name of the driver exactly as it appears?
Did you try to use:
1- system restore to an earlier point before the problem.
2-Scan use virus software (could be some kind of trojan/virus)
3-Last resort wipe hdd and restore system (only if you have disks) -
Scanner,
Yes, I am googling exactly, and I tried just different parts of it.
I tried #1, but don't have a point before the problem
#2: I have scanned using Norton and then I uninstalled that and installed Kaspersky and neither one found anything.
#3: I'll buy a new laptop before I go through all that...
Thanks anyway.
