    Need help with older toshiba laptop

    I have a toshiba sat. 1805 that worked fine for a long time then suddenly started to have intermittent problems with display..if I flicked the little switch that tells the laptop that the lid is closed, it would usually come back...but lately it wont even come back and does not even show on an external display, which is leading me to think that the sub board for that function is bad.
    Can anyone please share a similar problem and did that fix it.
