    Hi all,

I'm trying to upgrade the ram in my laptop as it is now painfully slow. I opened the panel at the bottom of the laptop but I couldn't open the two tabs. I don't think there is a ram module there to be honest but I would like clarification on that. Also if there a instruction guide on this particular module it would be most appreciated.

Also I going to buy a 1gb stick. Assuming that the 512mb in the computer is actually under the keyboard instead of on the bottom will the new one run at 512 or the full 1gb? Thanks.

Check out the User Guide (Pg. 56). One module is under the keyboard, and the other is at the bottom of the notebook. You can run CPU-Z, and check the SPD info for module configuration.

If there is a single 512MB module (under the keyboard), adding 1GB (in the bottom slot) will give you 1.5GB total. (1+0.5GB)

EDIT: Be sure to check out the link Andy gave you. It is the exact procedure for your laptop as given by Toshiba.

    Toshiba says:

I assume the 'service-accessible memory slot' is the one located under the keyboard & the 'user-accessible memory slot' is located on the bottom of the laptop.

There is a max limit of 2GB, but practically it is 1.5GB since one slot is inconveniently located.

This means that the 1GB stick should be fully utilized.

The memory module will look something like this (this is just a random picture from the net, not your model laptop. Your RAM slot will look similar, but not located in the same spot and only one slot.):

The RAM module is removed by pulling the two metal prongs on either side of the RAM away from the RAM. The module will then pop upward and you can slide it out. Do so carefully.

Inserting RAM is the reverse process. Insert the RAM at an angle, comfortably, don't force it. then gently push downward and the two mental prongs will be pushed aside by the module, then hold it in place. The RAM should then lay flat.

Be sure to buy the type of RAM specified in the above quote from Toshiba.

Okay thanks guys. There doesn't seem to be memory on the bottom just under the keyboard. I am having a problem trying to open the metal prongs. One of the will to the the side but the other one won't budge at all. Any suggestions?

Try pulling out the prong from the edges. Also push the module down slightly, and then pull the prongs out. Don't apply too much force, because breaking the prongs could result in a major screw-up.
