I'm working on someone's laptop who just got it from a family member. It looks as thought the original OS was a hacked version of Vista so that it could be completely in Chinese.

I don't know why they did that since they had a Toshiba restore CD with Vista already on it. Anyway, I am attempting to use the restore CD to put back the original version of Vista that came with the laptop, however I'm getting a DMI error when trying to use the AutoRecovery program.

I think whoever did the Vista hacked install wiped the partition or some other files that are needed for the restore CD. I used my copy of Win 7 to get in and format the HDD, so now it's completely blank.

The restore CD still won't work. Is there anything I can do to get the restore CD to work and overcome this DMI.exe error?

I just updated the BIOS from 1.5 to 2.5. The DMI error is now gone but the next screen gives me an error 03-EEEE-0000 in the Recovery Wizard.

Is the recovery disk the original that came with the notebook?

Yes it is the original disc. I actually did google it and followed the directions that said to copy the .swm files from the disc to the HDD but nothing happened after the tosimagex program was done.

Ok I finally got it. The original copy of Vista is now running, but the restore CD is trash.

I've been running the Windows updates on the system. For some reason the updates are taking hours to install. This is for like 50 updates. I've never ever had a system take this long to install updates, anyone have an idea why it's taking so long?

It's been running for about two hours now and has only installed 27 of 52 updates.
