Hello all,
I went purchased this machine a few days ago. I like the machine just fine and bought this on whim knowing little about it and it seems to be a good machine.
I play LOTRO online and the GPU (onboard) handles the game fine on medium/high settings. Heat does not seem to be an issue as in game temps never hit above 54 degrees (pretty sure this is good).
Question I have is that at times there is some slight hangs I can hear and see on the screen. Sound will studder for a min or so and sometimes graphics are the same. I know the graphical hardware is not of gaming quality but this does not seem to be an issue at all with these problems aside.
I have 14 days to return and just want assurance that all is fine? Today it dropped the wifi signal and required a reboot to get it back (little hiccups like that are meaningless to me(I guess?)).
Should I be concerned? I hope it's nothing, I like the system.
EDIT: It's a A665.... Typo

Hello there.
How much did you pay for it? If the price difference isn't that great, I would definitely exchange it for another A665 with a dedicated GPU. There are A665s with Nvidia Geforce 330M, 420M, or ATI 6560. Any of those would be a huge improvement over your current machine when it comes to gaming. I am not sure if I understand your problem correctly (hangs that you can hear? what do you mean?), but I wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with your current GPU. It probably struggles when there are many characters around.
This is a model with the 5650 for $830: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214045
Another one with the 420M (and iCore 7) for $1,000: Amazon.com: Toshiba Satellite A665-S6092 16.0-Inch LED Laptop (Fusion X2 Finish in Charcoal): Computer & Accessories
I don't know your budget, so I am going to mention only those two models so you get an idea. If you plan to game (even if only from time to time), get a dedicated GPU.
By the way, I just installed LOTRO but still haven't had time to play it. -

I bought the machine locally for 849 and I do really like it a lot. I had bought a laptop before this one (HP) with dedicated graphics and the graphics died on day 3.
LOTRO is not really hard on the GPU. I had a friend play LOTRO for a year or so on his laptop with Intel graphics without issues. I am not really one to look at FPS and say "OMG! I am uber cool because I get 4000 FPS" I really care less about that. As long as it looks good and runs good it works for me. This thing has an awesome display and game play is smooth (for the most part). -
Quick note about S6092 - even though it seems to be advertised on several sites (Amazon and Costco I've seen so far) as having the Geforce GT420M, it actually comes with the 330M. It's also listed on Toshiba's website with the 330M, not the 420M, but Amazon and Costco incorrectly list it with the 420M. When I ordered mine from Costco, I was expecting the 420M but got the 330M, started looking into it, and noticed the discrepancy between the Toshiba description (which I'm sure is correct) and the vendors' description. I'm guessing it's a mistake in the info Toshiba sent to vendors. I was bummed but not enough to return the machine.
Edit 11/2/2010 - Costco has corrected the listing. Amazon still incorrectly lists it with the 420M.
Edit 11/10/2010 - Costco dropped the price of the laptop by $50. When I asked if they'd prefer it if A) I returned mine and bought a new one, or B) they could just give me a $50 credit and save everyone a lot of hassle - they opted for B. I really like Costco
Edit 11/16/2010 - there's a problem with the audio. External speakers and headphones both crackle when the hard drive is accessed - probably interference from a badly insulated cable. So, thanks to the 90 day return policy, I'll be returning this puppy soon. Thinking of getting a Macbook Pro instead. -
Hi there. I am new. I just bought a Toshiba A665-S6095 on New Year Eve. It worked great until my nephew quite messed the things up when I am away. Now the laptop doesn't boot. I have no recovery discs. Hard disk won't boot, so can't access to Toshiba recovery wizard by holding F8 or #0. I didn't purchase any plan service, recovery DVD, so I am not sure they will exchange it. By the way I bought it from Home Depot. corbintechboy, do you have the recovery dvd. can u share it for me online, I mean, U make a DVD image on your laptop and send it online so I can download burn it out and give it a try to restore my laptop, I have 8 days for my return. Thank. PLZ REPLY.
