hey all, i got a 4200rpm 200gb hd on my notebook and it sucks under vista, my music gets stuck at times even!
    i've got 2 options
a 160gb 5400rpm or a 160gb 7200rpm, will there be a really huge performance difference between the two. I don't really play games so thats not an issue
main concern would be battery life, would it be noticeable?

    Thanks in advance

I agree with Xirurg, you'll definitely see a performance increase but if you're concerned with battery life, get the 5400rpm version. It's cheaper, less power hungry, and won't heat up as much.

If it was me, I would instead Opt for a high capacity 5400 rpm drive, from benchmark that i've seen they perform on par with 7200 rpm drives because of the high density of the platters; all with little to no effect on battery life when compared to the 160 gb 5400 rpm drive.

From your options I'd get the 7200rpm 160gb, but look around for a good deal on a 250gb WD Scorpio 5400rpm, it would be a great option, or even better the 320gb version.

I recently brought a 250GB WD 5400rpm and its EXCELLENT! It is whisper silent and in the brief time before my laptop stopped working it never got above 40 degrees. Also it was cheap (for new zealand), only costing just under $200
