My girlfriend just got a R835-P56x with the Officemax deal. The problem that I have with the screen is that it seems fuzzy, or slightly pixelated. I dunno how to describe it, but at the max resolution is seems like there is some "cross-hatching" or as if I can see little itty-bitty squares or pixels. It's only noticeable when you get within a foot of the screen. My 2-year-old Dell E6400 doesn't have this problem at all and they are both LED backlit.
Any one else have this "problem". I just want to make sure she hasn't got a defective screen.

What's the resolution of the Portege and the Dell ? If the Dell has a higher resolution, that would be the case.
Maybe the screen quality of the portege is lower than the dell.
If you could post some pics, it would allow us to give you better guidance. -
Sounds like the "screen door effect".

Yeah, it's the screen-door effect.

Is is similar to what I described in my Lenovo T420s review. If the problem is noticeable in everyday usage then try adjusting the Gamma in the Graphics Properties (colour enhancement).
