What are they thinking?! It is so very frustrating that Toshiba seemingly doesn't "get it". They announce their new multimedia notebook to take on the best of Dell, HP, Sony and others have.
Yet they put in a Geforce Go 5200 and keep the resolution at XGA?! Ahhhhhhhh. What is it going to take for them to realize they need better video cards and higher resolution screens in their high end laptops if they truly want to compete with the others on the market. I am a stout Toshiba supporter but I can see why they are losing control of a market they once dominated. They don't understand their customers.
End of rant. Think I'm right, or wrong?

sadly you are right Slat, I think Toshiba keeps aiming for the mark but missing it due to a couple of stupid features such as a crappy graphics card and screen resolution that was top of the line about 4 years ago.

Here is my take on this situation--a further look anyway. I had previously only owned Toshiba laptops and had good experiences every time and they (at that time) offered everything I needed; including a good video card. Sure, I had a hard drive break but the service was outstanding.
Just recently (past four months or so) I go to find my new notebook; looking SOLELY at Toshiba as I really liked what I had and the service I had received, so why look elsewhere I thought. I look at their models and they do not offer higher resolution screens or good video cards. So I visit their website and give them a call seeing if I just perhaps overlooked a model--or alternatively if I could just custom order one that met my needs. No and no. I was miffed. I did NOT want any other brand. So I waited, and waited, thinking they would eventually come out with something respectable. Nope.
Okay, fine. I'll LOOK at other brands while I wait. I find out that there are better options for me. I ordered a Sony Vaio GRT series and am EXTREMELY pleased (with a few minor complaints) with it.
Why did I tell you about all of that? Because I wanted to make this point: MOST people are very brand oriented--I sell laptops part time and it is most definetely true. Why doesn't Emachines sell well as compared to Sony or HP? Mostly brand. Don't give your customers a reason to go somewhere else or they will and won't give you a second glance for their future needs. Listen to them and give them options. I should thank Toshiba for I now have a much better laptop than I would have with them. I will probably stay with Sony now unless they decide they don't want me as a customer in the future. -
My first notebook was also one of the first Toshiba ever made. It weighed a ton and had a fantastic orange and black screen. This was a big move, as the standard at the time was green and black. Not that this walk down memory lane means much other than to reinforce the point that Toshiba used to innovate and they used to dominate the market. The odd thing is that their tablet is widely regarded as the best one on the market. Counter that with under-performing PDAs. The end result is a mess...

Lol, perhaps they took our thoughts into consideration as they just announced their s670 notebook with a Geforce5700Go--but where is the higher resolution screen?! Ahhh. Almost there Toshiba, I know you can do it! [8D]
