Just bought a Toshiba Satellite A665-S5199X notebook. I originally (as in two weeks ago) bought a Samsung Series 3 NP300-V5A-A02US, but somehow didn't realize it only had lousy USB 2.0 ports. So I returned it for a refund and bought the Toshiba. I'm already benefitting from the Toshiba's single USB 3.0 port, having used it to save a system image in about half the time it took with the Samsung.

I've hardly owned the machine a few hours, but I think it and I are going to get along OK. I'm not crazy about the keyboard, but, again...USB 3.0.

I like the internally-illuminated activity indicator icons (disk, battery charge, wireless networking, etc.). They make it easy to tell what's going on even in a dark room. On some other machines, such as the Samsung, all the indicators are just blue LEDs. I'd really like it if the keyboard were internally illuminated, but I realize that isn't going to happen on a US $700 machine.

Anyone else own this particular model?

Well THIS is not good. I have only owned the machine a few hours, but I am getting this error message quite often:
    Code:
    System Warning
    ---------------------------
Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.
Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.
According to Speedfan, nothing is overheating. CPU temps are both in the mid-90's °F.

So either this message means the machine is actually defective out of the box, or it is being given in error. Neither possibility is good! I may be taking this one back for a refund as well.

Ever get the feeling that god doesn't want you to have a laptop?

Ya I would take it back for a refund. That message doesn't sound good.

It even tells you to return it. Smart computer.

Probably will take it back. Even if that's a bogus error message, it really shouldn't be happening, and it's very annoying.

I'm not even angry, just disappointed. This is the second notebook PC I have bought in the last week which failed to measure up in some way. The HPs and Dells at Costco are starting to look good by comparison, and that's kind of depressing. Dell is mostly bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, and I swore off HPs after one of their BIOS updates bricked a buddy's machine. But it's looking as if I have no choice but to go HP or Dell, unless I want to spend a lot more elsewhere.

    update:
Took the Toshiba back. I liked a lot of things about it, but hardware defects out of the box are a no-go. Didn't care to take the chance of having the same problem with a different A665-S5199X so I bought a completely different model instead. Too bad, the Toshiba was growing on me.
