I just bought a new Satellite M645 and ever since I started using it the fan has been a little bothersome. In the health monitor my temps stay around 41% while the fan will stay at 68% most of the time and then to 0% for 30-45 seconds. Kind of annoying hearing it kick on and off like that every 5 minutes. Is this normal? Why doesnt it just hover at like 40% ?

You could try a BIOS update, or undervolting.

Yes - it is dangerous, but if you follow instructions to the letter, you will be fine. You run the risk of bricking the notebook, but as long as you do it correctly, it will still be fine afterwards.

DO NOT use a utility in Windows to flash the BIOS, as your chances of damaging the notebook are far higher than if you do it normally at boot.

Toshiba should have instructions on their site on how to flash the notebook. Use those instructions, as methods may vary from notebook to notebook.
