I expect it will be a year or three before there will a good choice of affordable devices to connect using this interface. I would let this be a primary factor affecting your purchasing decision. Next year will always bring something new.

eSATA is a direct connection for storage devices that use the SATA interface and doesn't need any converter chips. I don't know of other devices that use SATA. MP3 players usually have a USB 2.0 interface. I expect that if the interface is faster then the media write speed would be the bottleneck.

R-830 finally broken cover in the uk. Top model i7 8g 128ssd 3 year warranty goes for £1600 so about $500 more than US. Main problem is not custom options only 4 preconfig models so no ssd over 128 and not i7 model with regular hard drive to replace.

Would it be silly to upgrade from the R700 to the R830? Assuming both have i3 processor (current one has i3 processor) and both have 320gb HDD?

I'm not sure if I would see a difference in performance?

Thank you. I am behind in the computer world right now. When is Ivy Bridge expected to launch? Computer fan doesn't bug me right now... it's just that "itch" for new technology. :p
