dont know about that. Looks like the only diff on these new sli notebooks is the 45nm intel procs.

Looks like the SLi4 has 7200rpm hard drives which is real nice, but the cpu's L2 cache drops from 4 to 3 versus the SLi3. The Sli2"s harddrive speed isn't listed if it's 7200rpm I'd get that one. wonder if the new cpu"s are going to be a huge improvement?

$500 dollar difference for an extra gig of ram, vista ultimate, and 7k HDDs?

Hmm, that is pushing it for me.

    1gig ram = $20
    7k HDD (160gig) = $150 x2 = $300
Vista Ultimate = Not worth upgrading at all really...IMO

And really, wouldnt you only need one 7k HDD? For the OS and games i would assume. All other data like music and movies could be put on the slower drive, and possibly save some battery life in the process.

    Interesting

From what I hear, they will mostly just run cooler, but im sure there are other things that improve performance too.

no, the new intel penryn processors are faster clock for clock. Estimates put it roughly %20 faster, so the 2.1ghz penryn will likely be as fast as the current 2.4ghz version. Also, the new penryns have SSE4. The new chips require less energy and produce less heat.

I'am surprised they put the same cpu in both. The 2.4 penryn should be in the SLi4. I'am also surprised they didn't step-up to dual 8700gt's.

Kinda hoping they will make an x205 with 8800m.

    Why?
-They will update the BIOS to support the 8800m.
-They will make 8800m to fit in the x205's interface.

    Result:
x205's may actually have an "upgrade" path to 8800m's if you can find the right repair techs.

Yeah, gotta say, not really too impressive with the same GPU's we can get in the SLi1 or 3.... if they'd pop in SLI 8800's, then ya got something to drool over! :D :p

Not impressive at all, I will stick with my sli1 and the T7700. like be77solo said if they had 8800GT's in sli then it would be worth looking at.

Sounds like a waste of money to me..... Any thoughts about whether or not our Sli1s will be able to upgrade to to the 8800m???

If the video module card will be in same formfactor as in all previous X205, then yes.

Thanks for the info i hope that the new card will work!! Oh and one more thing.... would this new card come from toshiba or is there a generic version that will work with the X205 series. I guess I am a little unclear as to whether Toshiba is making their own version of the 8600m that works specifically with the x-205 series, or if it is a card that can be used with any computer with a similar motherboard? Sorry i am such a newb... :D

It's special to Toshiba, their own version, so it's *theoretically* possible, but is very unlikely you could ever track down one, and as far as we know, none even exist or might ever even be made in this form factor. Toshiba doesn't at this point offer upgrades for video (sure wish they would though), so it's only upgradable in the sense that your current card can physically be removed from the motherboard.... make any sense?

So i think what youre getting at is that it probably isnt possible to be able to find an 8800m card separately and put it in my Sli1? That sounds like a bad deal... Toshiba doesnt allow for a new card to be installed... :(

that's pretty much right.... there *might* be an option one day, and while it's technically possible, it's not likely

Its not hard just takes patience and use a piece of card board to remember where you took the screws from. And make sure everything is down and the connecters are all the way in. Cause I toasted mine because it was not seated properly.

You can try to do it via service center, at your expense.

Snowsurfer, the SLI2's and 4's come with 3MB of L3 cache instead of L2.

    Aloha, Guido

Buy.Com also has them listed, but without specs. Buy.Com also lists an X205-S9800. Again, no specs.

I saw the same thing on the J&R website a while ago and posted the info in a different thread. I was hoping these new babies would come out soon, but no such luck.
