hey guys, 2 new x205s just came out on toshiba's site. the sli 1 and sli 3 at 2000 and 2500 respectively. the main difference is that they have sli geforce 8600m gt and have been bumped up .2 ghz. are the older ones still better because they have 8700s? or are 2 8600s better?? its 100 bucks more..

They were there this morning, I looked at them. $2499 for the 2.2ghz with dual 8600gt's(other other specs the same as the X205-S9359. $1999 for the 2.0ghz low res model(same specs as X205-S9349).

I saw the new models too earlier this morning, but I am happy with my X205-9349, I was looking at Alienware(Dell) before buying my X205 and the Alienware PC's are too pricey. Now that I saw the X205s for $2499 makes me think if I should have waited a couple of weeks darn?????

Just632 - you are correct I just checked Toshiba's website at 14:45 Pacific time and saw that they took all the X205s models off the website, I wonder why????????

2 8600's are faster than 1 8700, but from my experience I won't be that much faster. I have a sli system at home and going from 1 8800GTX to 2 in SLI made a difference but it was not a hughe difference. That is why I got the X205 instead of the Alienware sli laptop.

Damm... bought few weeks too early! :(

It spots a new designs with the fingerprint reader right between the touchpad buttons...(instead of on the right side).

and the new "cool blue" color indicator lights (instead of the glaring red!)

Well, depends on how u look at it, I would opt for a single 8700 over the 8600 sli version. Sli = more heat less battery life and drivers in vista mostly arnt up to snuff and in some games Sli really isn't much improvement. So im truly happy I got the 8700 version "49" 1750$ Now if they were duel 8800 or single 8800 i would be pissed

    I agree as well.

That said, clearly this unit can handle the extra heat purging required for dual 8600s, considering how cool the unit runs now, but you better never want to run without the power brick hooked up :p

*sigh* I guess this is what its like being on the bleeding edge...quad core... sli.... its always moving. Buying a computer is like taking a photo - its just a snapshot in time... gone as soon as it happens..

That said - I like the single 8700 GT. I think that 2 video cards would generate more heat and use more battery power. I think that the x205 is a great all around machine and I'm still happy with my purchase. I can actually use this for a while unplugged - unlike my old one.

I guess this explains why Amazon.com just reduced their X205-S9349 price down to $1679.99 - $100 rebate = TOTAL COST $1579.99! No Tax, and free shipping to boot! :)

Personally, I really don't think I would notice the benefit of the new GPU or upgraded CPU. And, for $420 more, I doubt it would be worth it.

I can't wait for mine! I just ordered it today with an EAD of 9/26! I'm just upgrading from an old Toshiba A45-250 that I've been very happy with, so based on everything I've read here and elsewhere, and seen at the store (BestBuy still selling it for $1899... crazy.), I hope and think I'll be very satisfied with the X205-S9349. Besides, give it another six months, and the SLi1 and SLi3 will be outdated, computers just get better and faster everyday.

i meant the price as said above, nothing wrong with what you have, that price is what $400 less than what you guys paid if I am correct.

I bought the X205-S9349 for 1750 amazon no tax and free shipping when it came out mostly to play wow and i get 55-60 fps so i coulnt be more happy and seeing how well it plays bio shock, it will hold up well with newer games at 1440x900 the native res. Other comparable machines from other manufactures were so expensive the toshiba was a no brainer so I feel the money spent was spent well and the toshiba seemed to have so much more HDMI, HD DVD drive, larger hd and so on, Hopfully this will make other manufactures to lower there rediculus gaming laptop prices.

I agree, I am very happy with my 9349 that cost me $1699, if I wanted to play with a pc with sli I will use my dual 8800GTX SLI setup I have at home. I got this laptop for the price + performance combination that I think cannot be beat and to play games when I am on the road or on business trip (I travel a bit at my job). I also just for fun upgraded the cpu to the T7300 which I got for a couple hundred dollars from Newegg. :D :p

if i buy the x205 from amazon, would i still be able to use the rebate for the 5 free hd-dvd's from costco's site??? it doesn't seem to be a costco exclusive rebate as it just says toshiba and costco itself says that the rebate is through the manufacturer and not their rebate center.

It's a Toshiba rebate. I actually downloaded it from Circuit City.

I'm very happy with my purchase. I got my 9349 for $1729 and pretty much knew the price would be dropping soon. Heck, it dropped $270 in two weeks, while looking at it.

    OMG, it's a $450 price drop in a matter of 3 weeks!
(It's a bitter pill for us who bought 3 weeks too early :(
ok.. ~$100 drop is expected, but.. I am not expecting $450 in only 3 weeks!! )

    What are they thinking???
Even when the SL1 is out at $1999,
it's just a 2.0GHz CPU with single 8600M GT without intel robson mem,
compared to S9349's 8700M GT with 1GB robson but with 1.8GHz CPU.

A simple math will reveal that the 9349 is the best deal now and after...

I downloaded the form...it seems you have to attach the UPC code to claim the hddvd...
do we made a copy or need to cut it out to send?
can someone show me which ones/parts to cut out? the amazon box or the toshiba outside/inside boxes?
They also asked for a retail receipt, if amazon, what should we print/sent?

    Thanks.

Just some educated guessing, but I would assume that the benefit of two 8600M's in SLI would be most noticeable at higher resolutions, which is a single 8600M's biggest weakness. If you plan on playing newer games at 1680x1050 or higher, it may be worth it. It'd be useful for me since I would run the notebook to a couple different external displays whenever I'm not at work or on the road. I'm waiting on the 8800M version that was reviewed over in the UK on cnet but who knows how long that will be. I'm hoping by Christmas.

Either way, it's driven down the price of the previous models and offered yet another great option at the previous model's original price. Definitely a great thing either way.

thats a h3ll of a deal at $1999 i cant believe they cna put all that ni there for that much. say 500 for the SLI, 400 for the hd dvd drive, i mean they must be making nothing off of it.

Anyone got a picture where to cut the UPC code,
in order to send it for the 5 HD DVDs
    rebates?

Anyone successfully got them already? what's the best way to ensure quick delivery?

If they were offering dual 8700M's I might feel a lil' dissapointed given my recent purchase, but as it is only 8600M's... I don't feel that much of a loss.

The price cuts hurt more for me though.

EDIT: I also note that the specsheet still lists it as having WinDVD 8. They listed that for the 9349 and 9359, too, but it NEVER came with that. I wonder if this one actually will. If not, Toshiba needs to get with its design/install teams and clarify this. I hate their Toshiba-labeled DVD software... it just was so featureless.

Reread the spec sheet. It's dual 8600m gt's in SLI.

They also start at $2999. I'd be interested to see the performance difference in dual 8600GTs vs dual 8700Ms on the one card in the 1730. If it turns out to be one of those situations where one gets 70FPS in Crysis and the other gets 60FPS, it may not be worth the additional $1000 to get the dual 8700's. Can't say the 1730 is really an option for me with the case looking like it does...

i really dont think its worth $1000 more for dual 8700gt's , although theres a bunch of stupid worthless things in the dell you dont need aka the physics thingy by ageia.
