I am not super familiar with the U305, but I suspect any recovery discs from Toshiba will put your machine back the way you got it. Do you have a Vista disc?

Hello Sur! The only way I know of for doing a truly "clean" install will require you to have access to either some form of Vista installation media (including Anytime Upgrade), but not the Toshiba restore DVD.

You might want to look into this Guide and see if it helps: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

Short of that there is a freeware progy called PC Decrapifier ( www.pcdecrapifier.com) that will let you kinda take all the bloat out in one shot. It runs a program but never install anything to your computer + + A selection window will show dozens of common trialware and other OEM-bundled software that may or may not be on your system. Just select the ones you don't want and the app does the rest.

    Good luck! :)

To partition your disc, you need a Vista disc like the Anytime Upgrade disc mentioned above.

I just helped my boss's daughter re-install Vista on her U305 after she contracted a few nasty viruses from downloading god-knows-what at college. Basically, just stick Disc 1 of the Toshiba Recovery media into the machine before you boot-up and choose System Recovery.

But it won't be a lean install, since Toshiba is notorious for including tons of bloatware with their custom Recovery. And it's difficult to find all the drivers necessary to install Vista without their disc.

Best bet is to invest in more memory... at least 2GB to make Vista perform optimally and pray that the upcoming Service Pack 1 fix is not only faster but compatible with your laptop.
