    Hey folks!

I am still completely in love with my Qosmio Q893 which will be a YEAR old this October...Man, how time flies!

When I first bought this lappy almost a year ago I was considering using it as a temp gaming rig, keeping it for a year or so, selling it on eBay for a good price and upgrading to a high or medium end laptop. Anyway, there is nothing on the market in terms of games now or probably any time in the near future that this beast won't run. Add to that the fact that there seem to be at least some problems with the Q775 line, and I am thinking maybe I should just hold onto my current lappy for maybe another year or so.

So is there any word on the next generation of Qosmios after the Q775 line?

I think the x775s are here to stay for a while; just like the x505s were in production for a couple years.

I don't know your budget, but if it's anything near what you bought the q893 for, I would wait for another year or so. $1100 would only get you a gaming laptop with very similar specifications to what you have now.

Hopefully in a few years, GPUs on par with GTX 485m and 580m will be the standard.
Ivy Bridge will be out next year, but is just another extension of what Sandy Bridge was. The next big step will be after Ivy Bridge. Might want to wait until 2013ish.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey, how the hell are you, Alex?

Anyway, I hear you. I was considering the upgrade purely to get the 3D capabilities, but I have to be honest and say that it looks like even the 560m isn't handling 3D very well on the 3D version of the new Qosmios and people are having to lower the settings on even older games.

Right now, my lappy can play anything out there on the highest settings (well, for the most part) and I really don't see a huge difference between the 460m and the 560m in terms of performance. Honestly, if I sold my laptop on eBay, I could probably get a decent price for it. Because I have kept this thing in absolutely pristine mint condition and even have the original box. But from what I am seeing, I don't think that an upgrade is going to give me a whole lot in terms of my purposes. I could care less (other than bragging rights) about Sandy Bridges. My i5 is crushing everything computational I can throw at it and my 460m is easily handling any game.

You want to know what else? I am REALLY digging this 18.4 inch screen and would honestly feel like a 17.3 inch screen would be somewhat of a downgrade. Plus, I have to say something else that will sound bizarre: I never thought I would care about the aesthetics of a laptop before, but man I have NEVER seen anything as beautiful as the X505 Qosmio series. I am really "meh" about the X775's as far as looks are concerned. As crazy as it sounds, it would take a helluva lot more boost in performance for me to even consider giving up this lappy.

I think you are 100% correct, too, that 2013 or even better, early 2014 will be about when these machines might start feeling a little dinosaurish for gaming. The only thing that might suck is by then I doubt I would get very much money for my Q893. I really would LOVE for Toshiba to go back to the 18.4 inch screens and to make the Qosmios as pretty as the ones we ordered.

    Doing mighty fine :)

Glad to hear your Qosmio is performing well. I agree, these things are monsters! I love the 18.4" screen and am not at all impacted by the screen not being 1080p (I think people put too much emphasis on screens being a minimum of 1080P).

Glad to see you again. Hope to see you soon :)
