Hi, I have a Satellite that will cannot find any wireless networks, and I think it's virus related. :( :( :(

Opening Internet Explorer gives me a pop-up that reads:
I need to dl AVG, adaware & spybot, but I cannot connect, so I have to troubleshoot the network to get online. I went to Toshiba.com to find a repair utility to maybe reinstall missing drivers or whatever the utilities do, but there were 42 downloads!

Then someone told me to get the Ultimate Boot CD, but that has so many options, I'm scared I'll break the PC!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

is there another computer you could download spybot, etc on and transfer over with a flash drive/cd? A friends computer perhaps? With spy bot you can download the latest updates from their website and transfer them over as well , I'm not sure about the AVG updates

AVG is a horrible anti-virus. It detects almost no in the wild viruses (from personal experience). My personal and free favorite is Avira (free version pop-up can be disabled).
For the drivers, filter out the Vista from XP for whichever system you have. Most of the things that are there are add-ons rather than necessary. If you post which system you have (full name) maybe we could help you find the necessary drivers (though this wouldn't be the virus problem you're addressing).

Think you have two seperate problems...

Don't take offense but did you turn on the wireless NIC?

Things like refrigerators and microwaves can also effect wireless. Try a different area of the house or office.

Mcafee has a free on-line web based virus checker.

There should be a switch somewhere to turn on the wireless, on my Satellite A100 its on the right side front corner, I'd assume yours is similar.

Never had a problem like yours, but if it only affects your wireless maybe you can connect directly to your router, or bypass the router - just plug directly into the ethernet port on your laptop?

If your router is working, your wireless card is turned on, plugging directly into the router doesn't help, and the advice above to dl av/as to another machine isn't an option, I'd guess you'll have to find a computer store and buy an AV app. Good luck.
