Ok i have the Satelite A105 running XP.

When I download software it doesn't open it with the correct program.

How can I assure that I have the proper program for everything I download?

Even if I go to "Open with" list, I do not see anything in my list that I can use.

    Problem #2

I dropped my A215 and now the screen doesnt light up. It was only a 2 foot drop, so Im not sure what broke.

Best buy and Circuit city want 600 dollars to fix it. I bought it for 400 lol(display model).

If anyone could help me diagnose it, Im sure I could fix it myself. I just read the how to dissemble your a215 lol

If you hold a flashlight up close to the screen of the A215, can you faintly see the display? If you can the backlight light broke. It's a long tube like bulb encased on the bottom edge of the LCD panel. There are places on the internet that will replace the light for around $100-$150, but you have to pull the LCD out of the laptop and send it to them.
If it's not the back light, it could be about anything. Maybe contact a Toshiba service center for more information.

The link doesn't work. Also, please do not provide your account login details. Just post the file type extension and what the file is, so we can better help you with finding the proper program to use.

oh I don't care, its not a forum where you can get any info off of me. But apparently the mods care lol, I hate when they remove something or move it and don't tell you.....Its like it would take 3 sec to post a message stating it.

    here is the file extention

    .rar

.rar is a compression extension. You can open the .rar archive with 7-Zip. After installing 7-Zip, "uncompress to /example" will appear in the right-click context menu. This time be sure to "save file as ...", then right-click to uncompress. Once uncompressed, post the extension if it's still problematic.

(Regarding account login details, removal of such information is mostly in respect to the source. If they require a login, then they don't want it shared. However, I agree with you that a moderator note is best. Such as I provided.)

You associated other compression types with the program.

    Edit:
XP can unzip .zip files "like that" and .cab files too I believe.

Vista can't decompress .rar by default either.
