Hello everybody.
I was wondering if you could help me answer my question. I bought my first laptop (Toshiba A200-23Q) not long ago with following system specifications:
Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600, 512 Mb dedicated memory
2 Gb DDR2 667 Mhz Ram
200 Gb Hard Drive
I spend a lot of time behind the computer, because I need it for working with 3D applications (Catia, ProEngineer), Matlab, etc...
I did all of this with the help of my old PC, but now I was hoping my new laptop would replace that. So my question is:
Is it ok to use laptop as much as I used my old PC computer, or will using my laptop too much make its life span shorter?
Maybe it's a silly question, but like I said, I am new to this field, so I would really appreciate any kind of response.
Thank you and best regards,
k.p.

As long as you keep your temps cool and don't abuse your notebook, I'd say your fine.
I normally run my notebook for 12-15 hours straight, but I never see my CPU go above 48C (the same for the HDD's and GPU). I have mine sitting atop a notebook cooler. If you don't have one, I highly recommend you do. -
Any laptop with a a dedicated video card IC will have a higher chance of failure.
To reduce this, make sure you clean the fans out once a moth with compressed air and keep the air vents clear at all times when using 3d apps. That means no sitting the laptop on the comforter while you design stuff in cad. You should, preferably, have it on a hard flat surface, and if you are really concerned, purchase one of those fan setups that you set the laptop on to keep it cool. -
Thank you for your help.
I just bought a Zalman notebook cooler and I think it is doing the trick. My temperatures dropped for about 4-5 °C.
What is the "normal" temperature at fully loaded state for this kind of processor?
Best regards,
k.p. -
100C is the limit, 90C is in the red zone, anything else should be ok, but not for a long time.
I had a T5200, max temp was 80C+, when i undervolted, it was less than 60C, you should do it too if you are worried, I use RMClock to do it.
Now I have a T5250, max temp is about 75C, undervolted and now about 56C.
Both were undervolted to the max of 0.250V -
Thank you again for your answers.
My CPU' s maximum temperature (under full load) doesn't exceed 59°C, so i guess this is ok (looking at the posts above). When it's idle the temperature varies from 45 - 49°C (average 46°C).
Which program is good to monitor GPU temperature (ATI card)?
Maybe ATITool?
Best regards,

Where do you go to find the temps of the processors?
-
Download something like RMClock or Everest.
Try googling.
