I just upgraded the drivers to 169.09. I enabled SLI. [It didn't ask me to restart, which it did the 1st time I activated it a month or so ago]. I go to play oblivion and it has both expansions so it should have any need patches.

    Here's the problem: :(

I have 2 lines running down the left side and a green bar in those lines expanding and contracting. Also, the letters SLI are in a logo next to those lines.

Also, enabling SLI didn't raise my FPS at all!

SO WHAT DIDN"T I DO RIGHT?

Unfortunately, I got to go to work right now, so I can't stay here. Any input would be appreciated and tried out in the morning.

    THANKS

That green bar is the SLI indicator, shows whats going on with the two cards, and can easliy be disabled through the nvidia control panel, under 3D Settings, unclick visual indicators...

As for performance, haven't messed around with Oblivion on PC, only 360, so can't help ya there....

That's all that was. First time it poppped up on me was after the new drivers and I thought I did something wrong. Thanks.

Sorry for the long story below, but there it is.

Ok, Now About OBLIVION and the FPS situation.

I'm getting, according to both the in game console and the trial FRAPS, 22-26FPS on average after installing the new drivers IN SLI @ 1280*800. I have it set for normal lighting [Just prefer it to all the shine] 2AA/16AF and full settings, but with some ini. tweaks [less demanding shadows and more threads/RAM allotted and the near cells set to 7]. That 22-26 FPS seems too low and there is no change in FPS switching back to 1 GPU as it is also 22-26 FPS on average. It has gone up to the mid 40s, but only with an undemanding landscape.

Now the old drivers were giving me 16-17 FPS [again in SLI], but I thought that number had to be wrong because my character's animations looked pretty fluid and SLI should be better than that at a low res. So I ignored it/rationalized it away.

So I don't know what it is. Gothic3 is just as slow if that helps. My only thought was that SLI wasn't engaging, but it obviously is. Maybe I need a patch for SLI that I didn't have that I thought was there...

Is there a site with patches for each game to enable SLI? [Oh GOD! I'm still such a newb :D ] I'll google that.

Well if anyone has any input, ideas, or comments [I'll even take sarcastic remarks if they also happen to be helpful], post them.

    THANKS!

Try running driver cleaner and install the drivers again. You might need to overclock your cards a little to get more FPS. Make sure you OS is updated also.

I have found that Vista has the same problem I had on my desktop with XP and some games especially FEAR when running a sli configuration, under device manager under Human Interface Devices look for HID Compliant Device, I have disabled every HID Compliant Device entry on my sli1 like I did on my desktop otherwise I only get the performance of having one card when running sli configuration after doing this my performance goes back to normal.

 That  TOTALLY  BLOWS!!! I can't use my external mouse and both my GPUs at the same time?!?!!!

    [calms down]

Is that port on the left side between the USBs and the HDMI an S-video or a connection for the adapter that came with said mouse for hooking up to a desktop and would that get around the HID problem and let me use an external mouse?

Is there some way to use an external mouse and disable the HID? Cause I can't stand to use the touchpad.

[if not, I'm gonna "uncalm" down since then there was little point in upgrading from the s7483 ]

    _________
Edit: That made no difference. Still mad though as I'd like to see some performance in return for the extra cash I paid.

What's a good game that gets a good bump with SLI?

Hey Great square, I wouldn't throw it out the window yet ;) ... I'm not sure what the problem Jesse has with the HID devices, but I haven't run into that at all, with any drivers or settings or any game, and let's just say I try out a lot of games HA! :D I use an external mouse, an Xbox360 gamepad, and a few joysticks or steering wheels when I'm in the mood, and haven't had any issues at all.

And once again, I have no idea how Oblivion performs, I just played it for 360, not pc, so don't know if it's a port issue that just doesn't perform well on pcs or what, but nothing else gives me any problems... just got Stalker off steam, and it's gorgeous and runs perfect, and I had heard problem performances with it in the past, but runs great with SLI. Also, about any other recent game out there I've tried and have had no problems at all, only one being Crysis, but that brings ANYTHING to it's knees if you crank the settings high enough. So, don't lose hope yet, have you tried Call of duty4 or any of the half life 2 stuff? Bioshock should run well, just thinking maybe Oblivion is part of the problem. Also, not too familiar with Gotchic 3, so don't know how well that's optimized either, but I don't remember the reviews I read being overly positive. And, I'm not knocking the game at ALL :D just haven't tried either on my system to compare, but all the newer demanding games perform well.

Just did a few quick searches, and there is quite a bit of info on Oblivion and tweaking settings, talking about how to get better performance.... apparently it's a game that does need some tweaking to be optimized, so I'd suggest checking out a good Oblivion forum or searching the game's section on this site, and throw up a question over there.... I know it was a demanding game when it was released, must still be :)

I have the all the patches and I've already tweaked the ini. file. I'm seriously thinking that I have a hardware problem of some sort because I never saw any performance difference [better or worse] between engaging SLI and not doing so. I'm stuck getting about 22FPS with normal lighting & 2AA in 1280*800. PATHETIC. I wasn't aware of the actual underperformance untill recently because I didn't get the free FRAPS until about 2 weeks ago and I attributed it to the old drivers. Then when I updated and found that SLI had been disengaged, that's when I saw the difference. Well, actually, the lack of difference.

    -----------
EDIT: As a reference, here is a link to what the desktop 8600GT can do in SLI with Oblivion. Since the performance of one 8600GT is about what I'm getting with one 8600M GT, it approximates what I should be seeing with SLI.

    -----------

If I have to send it back to Toshiba, do I have to reinstall the old drivers? I mean, will they make an issue of using drivers other than theirs?

Just curious, have you run 3DMark06 recently? Let me know what score you get and that'll be a decent indication of whether it's working or not with both GPU's. If it's in the 3-4K range, only one is working, if you get 6-8K, both are working fine and it's probaly some kind of driver or setting conflict with Oblivion.

You know, i'm having similar problems here with my system... But it's really weird... First i though it was a hardware problem because even doing clean installs of vista i was still having the performance of just 1 gpu... But now im not sure about that being the problem... I think it's Bios related (updated to 1.90) or something with software... Why? Because yesterday i ran 3dmark06 and was getting only 1 gpu performance so, i being really upset with the problem, turned off the pc and went to calm... After 30 min i came back and turned it on again and ran 3dmark, and to my surprise i was getting sli performance (from 4500 before to 7200 now)... So i was like   but well happy at last... After playing some hours i decided to rest and turned off the pc at about 4pm... When i came back last night, BUM 1 gpu performance again... And this morning turned on and again SLI performance... What is happening, i dont know... I'll have to take it to the Toshiba guys to see if they can do something about it...
