Hi, recently my brother reformatted my old laptop's hard drive and I cant get the OS to reinstall. I have the original Configuration Builder CD but whenever I try to load off of it the computer keeps trying to load out of the A drive. I have tried making boot disks and none of them seem to work. I dont know if I am just getting the wrong one or if I am typing in DOS incorrectly or what. Is there anyway to hook it up as an external drive on another comp and install it from there or any other way period? I called Toshiba and they said I had to take it to some service center and they could do it, but I would rather not have to pay for somethign I can probably do at home on my own. Thank y'all for your help.

Which OS are you trying to install? You could check the bios to see if allows from a USB device. I'd say it is unlikely, but you never know.

the disc is for 98se so I've been trying that. I've gotten as far as formatting and creating a fat32 drive and now when I restart and try to start up with cd-rom help every time I try to load setup from the cd it sais it's not ready reading the drive. And my bios doesnt accept startup with the usb.
