Unfortunately, I dont have a photo of the bracket as I dont have it yet. When I get it, I will post.

Thanks Jim, I figured that out, it was a call to q850 or q830 owners.
Could you post a photo of the connector in your second bay as you said you have the Q875 & some posts claim that there is no connectors in the secondary bay for this model. That would put my mind at ease before ordering it. -
Intersting parts website. Looks like one could buy a replacement video card for the series as it's a snap on module to the mother board. That would imply owners that got the 250M could upgrade to the 3xx one that just came out (IF we can confirm same motherboard)
Pricy tho. -
Why are the X505 speakers weaker than the one's on my X205? They are both harmon kardon, but on sites like pandora or last FM, the sound is fuller and much louder on the x205. The x505 speakers are just weak this time around, very disappointing.
I installed the drivers as well. -
my x505-q880 was shipped today from China? I am considering to buy Asus G73jh model? do you guys think G73 is far better? I was expecting q880 to be shipped on Oct 26 but was shipped a month before. Asus G73JH looks amazing laptop. I am confused.
-
Toshiba-supplied drivers? They are very bad, dont use them. They have some wierd effect on them which causes volume leveling and drops.
I use built-in Windows 7 drivers and my speakers sound great - better than ones on X200 were. -
Ingvarr,
I'm testing the new set of drivers. 4.98.16.61 They are much better than 4.98.8.63 that the x505 shipped with.
I've not run them long enough to decide if they were better than the Win 7 drivers, but I can tell you they haven't dropped out like the stock ones that Tosh shipped.... -
I am also running this version of the drivers and have not had any problems.
Jim -
I'm using the windows 7 drivers now...the sound is pretty much the same or worse. I noticed there's not drops now, but the sound compared to the x205 is pretty weak. I don't understand how many of you think that the sound is better than the ones on the x200, the x200 sound unmodified is much louder and much fuller...you can actually hear the bass.
-
Not the case for me. Maybe you have a hardware problem on your X500, I am having no probs with bass on it, and sound a lot clearer because of lack of crossover filters like its on X200...
Not to mention X200 has a case resonance in some mid frequencies, that's why its using a EQ preset in manufactufacturer-suplied Realtek drivers to cut these freqs out. -
Hey guys,
I just got my X505-X870 and its been really nice... but i went and got into a video call on skype and the mic was just atrociously low... like me shouting sounded like a whisper on the other side... any thoughts? i uninstalled the conexant sound driver if that pertains to anything. -
I don't think there's a hardware problem. I think it's a matter of the drivers. Even when listening to headphones, the sound is much lower compared to the X205.
IF you still have the X200, can you compare the loudness of each computer? I highly doubt the X505 will have the same loudness when listening to music on sites like pandora or Last.fm -
Well now i have issues with whenever i try to update the graphics card the nvidia drivers tell me you don't have the hardware that is right! What the heck, i know i am getting the right now. Now the next thing is when i do that the blu ray drive goes hayware then i can't play films, this is a very annoying machine starting too.
-
Well, the X200 was slightly more loud, true, just because it had more speakers. But at these high volume levels the quality of sound was quite bad - you just got 4 small speakers shouting distorted sound and plastic bezels rezonating. Toshibas are not boomboxes
X500 is not significantly quieter, because it uses proper audio grilles. X200 used basically holes drilled in plastic cover
I have not noticed headphones being quiter, but myself I have never bothered to try to squeeze max volume out of small laptop speakers, sound clarity is more important for me.
Why should it matter is you listening to music sites or not? It does not matter to speaker hardware
-
Have you enabled microphone boost in the recording audio source properties?
-
Ah! Thank you so much for this....
-
I just ordered the x505-q880 from JR.com this morning. I had my shipping address verified this afternoon. I hope they are going to ship it out tomorrow. I am extremely excited to be getting this system. It feels like it is Christmas on a Friday!

I have this same problem. I have an M-Audio IE10 earphones, a SteelSeries Siberia and a Philips SHS8000. There is interference in the M-Audio (very noticeable). Using the SteelSeries Siberia, the interferance cannot be heard unless you are in a very quiet room (and even then, it's barely noticeable. I think most people wouldn't notice the static). There is NO interferance at all using the Philip's. My guess? Impedance. M-Audio's impedance is rated a 13 dB. SteelSeries impedance is rated at 30 dB. Philips is rated at 16 dB. The laptop headphone's jack is rated at 16 dB, as stated in the documentation. I'n not an audio expert; this is just a guess based on my tests.
M-Audio's headphones came with an accessory to use in airplanes (an attenuator) and, despite lowering the maximum volume (wich has the possitve effect of protecting my ears from exploding), it completely eliminates the static noise (I cannot notice any attenuation in highs or bass, it may be more noticeable in an airplane jejeje). The SteelSeries Siberia headphones came with an extension cord with a built-in volume control. If you connect this extension cord to the laptop, you can lower the volume a little bit using that built-in volume control (which elimiates the static noise) and then crank in up from the laptop's. That, too, will eliminate the interferance (using any headphone).
I know that using an M-Audio IE10 on a built-in laptop's soundcard is almost a joke, but those are the headphones I have right now and it's a pitty that I have to use lesser quality headphones to... get better sound? Damn... Anyway... At least I could solve it somehow. Maybe you can buy some sort of XXXX in a radio shack (replace XXXX with whatever can solve the problem. I have no idea... The attenuator did the job for me).
Well, that's my experience. Other than that, great laptop! Regards! -
the only nvidia drivers you'll probably be able to use will be the ones directly from Toshiba....
UNLESS you modify the .inf or get a modified .inf from someplace like laptopvideo2go.com.
(I don't own the site, don't know the owner, etc) but I've been getting my drivers from there for many years now.
BTW, try the DOX series driver. He's back in "business", but won't be releasing as many drivers as he used to. -
Well than thats a major fail! Also when i tried doing a clean install it wasn"t successful! Is toshiba blocking something here? Get a pair a denon headphones like me, also rami explain more about the audio issue clarify please.
-
Clean install of what? huh?
-
Clean install of windows!
-
I have a x505-875 and just put in a toshiba 500gb hard drive in bay 2. I bought the caddy from spare parts warehouse and it fits perfect. The only problem is that I have no screws to screw the hard drive into the caddy. Now I have it placed in there, it is pretty tight but I really want to screw it in.
Any idea where to get screws for this?
Thanks
Jim -
I am the proud owner of an X505-Q880! I have not received it yet. It is in transit. Won't get here until Tuesday. I can hardly wait.
-
I've had the X505-Q832 for a little while now and like it well overall. I'm considering upgrading to the X505-Q880 to get the bigger HD, 64GB SSD, 6GB RAM and 1920x1080 display (I can return the Q832 to Costco).
Does anyone know if the Wifi card and bluetooth are the same Realtek setup as in the Q832?
Is the vertical viewing angle on the full HD display any better than the HD+ display?
How is performance of the 64GB SSD?
Thanks,
Lee -
Greetings from a new member here!. I have been saving up to replace my Acer 5100 laptop with something much better to view movies on. I came across ed the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 and think it would run movies better then this Acer and could also be used for normal web surfing. Although I no squat about computers I also think buying this model will serve my everyday computing needs for some time to come. As you might guess by my photo (They dont let me get out much! LOL) I was hopeing some of the experts here on the forum might give me a opinion on this model for my use needs. THANKS!
-
Well, I got my new Q880. It is hugh!
I got to go play now. See you guys soon.
-
How do I increase the overall sound? I have it at 100% but it is not loud enough for me.
-
Buy a good external speakers which are bigger than 3cm built ins.
Unless you have some software/hardware problems. I usually run mine on 60% and its fine, but I guess each person has own image of "loud enough". -
Congrats...
I'm calling HP to return my DV8T and am getting the 880 also...The DV8T is a major fail in HP's book. lol.
Can't wait... -
I am getting the Antec Notebook Cooler 200
I've been told by many semi-pro and pro game players this is what they use...it works amazingly. -
So has anyone in here discovered the "once you see it you will freak" mistake(not serious but, well...) the toshiba engineers made on the x500. I wont mention it cuz things were fine til I read about it on another forum and well, its a pandoras box...so I will not open the box and recommend others to save our qosmio devotees the anguish. Its been said that its unfixable...
-
Huh? Where... thinking of buying one... would like to know what the issue is... thanks.
-
like I said its not serious and you will probably not even notice it. Dont ask for more..its a pandora box and its my fault for investigating something I shouldnt have. The machine is great if you read my posts here and Im not tryin to dis the qosmio. Buy the machine! Its great and of course not perfect, but what is? I can send you a link via PM but I warned you!
-
Sorry, but - prooflink please or stop trolling ;P
-
Not trolling but I guess it could look that way.Its out there in another forum .I can PM the link if you want it
-
Do you mean backlight unevenness?
I wouldn't worry about it because:
a) all LCD panels have *some* sort of backlight non-uniformity, it's just exact nature of it changes from display to display (ie my previous X200 had shadows at the bottom corners, normally hidden by taskbar)
b) I use X505 with HD+ panel which does not have same uneveness, not to mention its also brighter than FullHD. It still has other kind of non-uniformity - gradient on black screen (due to single bottom light source used). -
ok! I was bein a little over dramatic ,maybe. It seems to have gotten the better of me since discovery(its along the taskbar so covered mostly ). So its a normal thing with these screens? Alot of folks on the toshiba board are POed...I dont care. Its a trifle..pardon my skitz!
-
Well, as I would say - there is simply no perfect screen on notebooks. There is always *something*. Grrr
Obviously if particular quirk on particular screen bothers you too much, it might be worth to swapping to other screen model/notebook. Just better look at it first.
I think it's because laptop screens are always a compromise (because of weight/size restrictions mostly). -
Well i have come to a conclusion to sell my Qosmio and get a m17x here is my thread of sale if anyone is interested http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5841623#post5841623. The screen isn't bad when you calibrate it with the toshiba utility.
-
god damn I just read the specs for m17x!!! Im jealous...argghhh and my one month full return policy just ended...thank god Elkjop norway doesnt have a selection of alienware or I'd be cryin a fjord.good luck with the beats of beasts!!
-
The m17x is pretty nice....But the setup I'd want is $4,789 before tax/shipping/etc. HAHA
-
Yeah the M17x is too expensive so just doing a trade, a true gaming machine for that will be for another day just another day. Best way though is too get it from the dell outlet.
-
Agreed.
I like alienware, but I don't feel like paying for it.
I would rather get a sager....more specifically the NP9850.
The config I want is like 5600. haha. (m17x config I want is way higher haha).
But I'm waiting a while before I get a new laptop, and then I'll have to find the next best product. lol.
This thread is pretty much dead huh?
There's tons of more action going on everywhere else I look. haha. -
Why is the thread dead? LOL. We now have experienced most of the known issues, ed our es, whined our whines.
Now we wait for something new and interesting to happen to post about. -
haha I dunno. The thread for the dv8 is constantly getting posted in.
On a side note, I can't wait to get rid of my dv8 and get the 880 model. Sending my laptop back tomorrow finally but unfortunately I have to wait for 3-5 days to receive a refund before I can even purchase the 880. :/
Oh well, the wait will definitely be worth it. -
anyone using any music production programs on the x500? My cubase 5.1 will not accept my usb external soundcard input but It accepts the internal toshiba mic input. It will recognize my ext. soundcard but it just wont playback or record(something about MS GS wavelab synth being enabled)
-
Yes, I discovered it. I think it's only fair to tell everyone, because the Qosmio series doesn't come cheap and I would hate for anyone to find out after spending their hard earned cash. The 1080p Qosmio screen has a faint black stripe at the bottom of the display (around the Windows taskbar area) which is caused by the bottom lit LCD. I personally could care less since i never stare at the bottom of the screen. Overall, I am extremely pleased at the quality of the screen in spite of this inherent flaw. I have owned multiple brands of laptops: Acer, Lenovo, Asus, Dell, HP, Apple, etc. and all of them had their own quirks. I am a diehard Apple fan and I was close to purchasing a new Macbook Pro to replace my 08 15" MBP. However, the Toshiba just offers too much value for the money: Dual hard drives, Blu Ray, core i7, etc. I ended up purchasing the x505-q880.
-
I have a X505-Q832 (same as the Q830, but a Costco specific model) and ordered the X505-Q880 which arrived on Monday to compare the screen and performance with the SSD. So far I much prefer the 1680 x 945 display on the Q832 to the 1920 x 1080 on the Q880.
The 1680 x 945 display is much brighter and appears to have a more neutral cast. The 1920 x 180 display is much dimmer and seems to have a fairly blue cast. I've tried to adjust it using the calibration wizard and Nvidia control panel, but can't seem to get it to my liking.
Maybe it's a defective unit?
Has anyone else come up with the same conclusion?
I read some of the observations by Ingvarr and don't recall a blue cast note, but seeing is believing. -
I don't notice a blue cast on my Q880. I agree that the 1080p screen isn't the brightest. However, the blacks are very deep and the colors are vibrant. I use my laptop in a light controlled room so the glossy screen isn't a huge problem. However, I would have preferred a matte screen, but that's hard to find these days.
I'm wondering whether to keep the X880 or go with the Asus G73. Has anyone actually viewed the G73 screen? If so can you please post some feedback on the G73 vs the X800. Thanks!
