Sat 3005 S307. Computer boots to Toshbia screen and then dies. This happens with cord plugged in and with battery. I thought it was due to a weak batttery or the battery causing problems but even with the battery out and using an AC cord same thing happens. Boots to Toshiba screen and then even when trying to get into BIOS the machine dies. Motherboard issue? HDD? Misseated RAM?

Normally mis-seated RAM means the boot process doesn't start.

Does it die at exactly the same point each time? I'm wondering whether the heat-sink is dislodged or possibly the fan has died so the CPU starts, gets so far, then stops due to overheating.

Hi appreaciate the response. Regarding your questions. Yes it seems to shut down at the same point regardless of where on battery or plugged into the wall. I have a BIOS password so as soon as turned on I see the Toshiba screen then it changes to the password screen and immediately after shuts down. What to do next? Its out of warranty. Self reparable?

The problem could also be that it's overheating if you haven't ever cleaned out the vents, so try that first. Otherwise, if it's old enough that it wouldn't matter if it doesn't work you could find a manual and try to disassemble it yourself. And hey, if you fail, well, it didn't work anyways, then you have an excuse to get a new laptop.
