Ok so I just got my X205-SLi4 back from the repair depot after they replaced the video cards in it, and I go to load up Far Cry again only to find out that my HD-DVD drive is not in Device Manager. So I restart and throw a Win2K disc in the drive, and that doesn't boot even with the CD priority before the HDD. I then removed the Philips DVD-ROM from my scrapped Inspiron 9200, removed the bezel off the other drive and put it in, only to find that it still doesn't work, so the drive is not the issue. Is there anything I can do to fix this, because I don't want to send it back to the Toshiba repair depot after it has been there all of last week. The drive has power, but the BIOS/Windows won't see it. Any suggestions?

Use the search because that's a known issue with the toshibas... I had that problem too, and to alot of ppl here... I really don't remember the exact solution (it has to do with some line in the registry), that's why i tell you to search the forum... Type HD DRIVE or HD DVD problem... You should find that post...

The original drive and another DVD drive that I took from a retired Inspiron 9200 are not recognized at all by BIOS, yet they eject and respond to restarts like normal. I don't get it at all. The drives work, but they cannot be physically seen by BIOS. the BIOS just shows the 2 Hitachi hard disks and LAN in the F12 Boot Menu. I guess maybe the Toshiba tech busted the IDE connector or something, and if that is the case then I am screwed.

Crap...I just tried my cluster of 4 USB ports and they do not work...wonderful. Only the two on the left side work. Looks like I have to re-void the warranty and find out what the Service Depot f***** up now, since apparently I can put my laptop back together better than they can.

EDIT: I took it apart and found that the idiot technician forgot to plug in the 4 USB ports/modem cable. Those work now, but I still can't find out why my DVD drive is not seen by BIOS though.

i had the same experience with my computer when i sent it in for service. They actually replaced the motherboard and both cpus and then screwed up my keyboard and touchpad and modem, pretty much eveything you could think of went wrong  finally after repacing all of that stuff it everything seemed ok, but now after a system restore and deleting some bloatware along with an update to vista SP1 i am having the same problem with my DVD drive except my Drive does show in BIOS. i have a link for a registry fix so ill let you know if i have any luck with that.

Abehanna, any chance you've still got that link for the registry fix? I'm having the same problem (CD/DVD drive has stopped working) with my Toshiba Satellite and am hoping it's a simple registry problem rather than drive failure.
