I am just wondering if anyone with a P105 has tried out the optical (digital) out?
If so, how well does it work?
Good sound? Clean sound?
-
To my knowledge, I don't think the P100 series has an optical out.
-
Yeah, it does. Its in the same port as the analog out.
-
Well, if its an optical out, you'll get pretty much crystal clear sound (even without me trying it out). Can you also post your model number because I've never seen a P100 with an optical out before.

p105-s9312
If you look in there, the diode is there. -
Plus it's a toshibia. Why wouldn't it have TOSLINK?
-
I don't think the P100 has an optical out - I just checked Toshiba's site/spec sheet on the P100/P105 - no where does it state that the notebook has an optical out. I would think that Toshiba would make at least a sidenote about it having an optical out and at least list it in the notebook's spec sheet as other companies such as Apple do.
Also, TOSLINK is probably only incorporated into Toshiba's sound/audio hardware, not their computers. -
sorry amd but your wrong. *Check the spec's again.
So I ask again. Has anyone tried this?

Little bump here.
Anyone? -
that is coaxial, not optical iirc.... it is a headphone type jack. It is digital so it should sound ok, but your speakers need to be able to recieve a coaxial audio input and have a built in decoder..
Optical out is a fiber optic connection using a special fiber optic cable that uses glass and lights on and off to send digital information, one of the best types of audio connections out there.
That being said, it is a digital connection and should sound just as good as optical. -
....
Yes it is optical. I do know what I am talking about.
I will take this as the final no.
Meh ill just have to get myself my own speakers and test it out. -
post a picture of the optical out on your p105.
-
I cant take a picture of the inside of the port. Trust me. it is there.
-
take a picture of the side of the notebook that it is on.
SPDIF can also be an optical connection, but the spec sheet says that it shares the jack with the headphone jack. So it must be an RCA/headphone type connection. -
yes its an optical connection its shared with the headphone jack!
there is a led at the bottom of it.
how do you proposei take a picture of the bottom of the headphone jack?
optical can come out of a 3.5mm jack.
I know what the hell I am talking about. -
Thats about as good as it gets.
See the LED? Ok, moving on now.
