Well I finally decided on a toshiba today, spent a good deal of time at compusa just checking them out vs other models, decided to go with the P15 S479, Compusa had them on sale for $1499 but no stores in my area (or thru their site) had them in stock...
So I came home did some more reading and a few price searches, then checked with resellerratings.com and such, and found one that after rebate and no tax wise should break down to be the same price as compusa (figuring in my taxes if I bought at compusa).
So hopefully as long as the sellers site is accurate about stock ( onlinemicro ) and hopefully they are half as good as their reviews (great reviews), then I should have one sitting here by the end of the week.
I chose the P15 S479 and hope it will serve me well for the next 2 years or so, and had actually had the P25 series units in mind (till I held one next to the P15), boy those are alot bigger than I realized! The P15 with its 15.4 will be fine vs that 17 inch screen.
Does anyone know of a site that has detailed pictures of this unit?

Other than the Toshiba website I can't think of any other website with many pictures. I bought the P15-S420 about two weeks ago. I like the widescreen and it has ran very well so far. The only complaint I have is that the two fans on the upper left side of the notebook run quite often and are loud. It has a P4 3.0 w/HT so I know it gets hot to run as fast as it does, but it does get a bit annoying when on my laptop in a quiet room.
The P25 is really big, I think you'll be happy with the size of the P15...makes a great desktop replacement and still small enough to stick it in a backpack and carry it around.
Let me know if you notice the fans on your P15, maybe I'm just paranoid. -
Also had a question to those of you who have laptops, what things should I be looking at buying for it accessory wise and how does the built in wireless work?
I figure a decent case for sure, maybe a small mouse and probably an sd card (for fast easy movement from my other pc to this laptop) and possibly one of those small usb lights (for night use) or are those garbage...
I have a wireless router in the house here and 2 other pcs hooked upto that router (one with wire one with usb wireless) using the wep etc etc, Remember here I am a newbie, never had a laptop and JUST got the wireless router, how does that integrated 802.11g work on the laptop, do I open it up and enter one of my wep security codes then it automatically finds the router and I am on?
Lastly are there any specific cases you guys can recommend to fit the p15 series units, something that fits the size really well and might offer a bit of protection while traveling...
Sorry for the newbie type questions, I am new to all of it...
Cant wait for the unit to arrive...

Also don't laugh,
but I am so new to the wireless router and having more than one pc hooked up at one time in general, how do I "network" what I mean by network (might not be the actual definition) is allowing all the pcs on my setup to access and share files with each other.
It would be really neat if I could sit in the living room with my laptop and access or move say an mp3 or mpg or document from my main pc here in my pc room, (or something like that).
Not sure if it matters but my main pc here has windows 2000 pro, the laptop will have xp media version (never even touched an xp pc before), and again in general im a newbie to that sorta stuff having JUST got the wireless router and hooked it up and such...
The 3rd pc I have here in the house is just my wifes work pc for word and excel, so that would not need to be hooked up to accesss to and from in a network type setting..
Just figured if it isn't too terribly hard maybe someone could explain how to set it up so I could actually move files back and forth thru my router and wireless setup from the main pc to the laptop.
(only way i could think to do this is thru cdr, dvd, sd card or thru something like icq running on both systems)
but I know there are folks who have all their pcs hooked up together so they can access this file or that thing from pc to pc and that is what I would like to eventually be able to do with that laptop.
Thanks again for any help on this, sorry for being such a newbie question wise...

You just need to share the drives you want computers on your network to have access to. You can also share folders if you want to limit access. Simply right click on the folder or drive and there will be a sharing choice to turn on. Remember though, shared files are viewable by everyone on your network so be sure proper security is in place.

I got the Targus Elite Notebook Backpack, fits very snug, due to the widescreen it is a little bit long so it barely fits in the notebook compartment. I got a backpack because I have to take it to school, but the backpack is very nice with a lot of neat compartments. I also but a Logitech wireless mouse and Targus 10-key pad, connects through USB port.
I have a Microsoft Wireless router and had never used wireless before, but I just followed the wizard and it seemed pretty easy. I made my laptop the base station and my old home PC a network PC and shared all files on my home PC. It is pretty neat so far, I was able to create a network drive and transfer all my old MP3's. The microsoft router comes with pretty easy to follow software. My home PC runs Win 98 and I have had no problems yet.
Hope that helps, please do let me know about your fans, I don't notice it much in class while we are having a class discussion...but at home on my desk when it is quite in my room, it sure seems a bit loud. I might look into the quite fan option, but not sure if you can exchange fans on a notebook?!?! I've heard the reason the fans are a bit loud is because the Tosh has two fans that need to keep the powerful P4 HyperThreading chip cool.
Ordered my Toshiba today...
