I am heartbroken that Windows 7 is not compatible with Portege r200. I mean, it installs and runs, but ALL the function keys do not work. Meaning, I can't control battery power usage, muting, screen brightness, sleep and screen switches between my full size monitor / projector for presentation and my laptop screen.
It's because Toshiba did not bother to make the 'Toshiba Common Modules' driver to be compatible with Windows 7. That's the core software needed in order to run all the function keys on the computer.
Anyone know how to get around this? I'm thinking of learning C++ just to figure out how to make the Toshiba Common Modules file compatible with the R200! More reasonably, I think I am going to write a letter to Toshiba HQ and implore them to make the r200 supported for Windows 7. Maybe I'll even start a petition.
What if I just copied the installed files of the "Toshiba Common Modules" on my XP and paste them into the Windows 7 system file?
arg - this is sooo frustrating and disheartening.

Has anyone successfully installed Toshiba Common Modules (The precursor software that is required to have the hotkeys (Fn) on a Win 7 platform work) successfully on a pre-2007 laptop?
Or is Toshiba Common Modules spitting back out the error message: "Toshiba Common Modules is not compatible with this operating system [sic]"? -
What many people have tried in the past is to install the software for the newer model on the older model. When Vista came out I had a Portege M200 and we were able to install most of the drivers from the M400 to get functionality.
Of cours this laptop came out in 2004/2005 which pretty old from a Laptop perspective. I would try to see if the R300 or R400 Vista or Win 7 drivers work...
