My Toshiba satellite P100 ST7211 are now going in for repair the second time in 3 months - because the lid has crack on the left side near the hinges.

Is this a design fault - or is my model a 'Friday afternoon model'?

    Do anybody have similar problems?

    Thanks

    lukfil

Many toshiba models suffer from poor build quality, and sometimes the support is not very helpful. One of the reasons that I don't own a P105-S921 now and have a W3J instead.

I think, if you buy your P100 under warranty, you'd better to replace it as long as your unit is still covered by warranty

I would definetally replace it. My P100 is just fine. In fact, I find it to have excellent build qualty. Lukfil, do lug your P100 around in a backpack or is it always on the desk. Was the crack there out of the box?

I will replace it - but it is the second time this happens to this laptop in 3 months. (Yes i carry it around - in a special aluminum case)

Is it a design fault ?
It is like the hinges are mounted to the plastic and not a metal frame
(this happened to my IBM r40 but after 3 year of everyday use)

See attached picture - the cracks get larger with time

    thanks

I have the same problem, did Toshiba give you a hard time about replacing it? I'm about to send my in for repair, and am worried they will take their sweet time fixing it or try to claim that I did something to it! :(

No problem - they where a little bit slow with the repair

I went to the repair center and showed them the problem and they let me keep it until the spare lid was there.

:O i have the same problem!!! i thought it wouldnt be covered since its a "cosmetic" problem and doenst really affect the performance of the laptop...

someone in the states bought my p105-s9312 for me...im in canada... do i have to go to the states to get it repaired? or will a toshiba authorized repair place in canada do it?

Just went through that Jay, There is a place outside of missasuga, Ont that will do it. thats the ONLY place in canada that will under the US War. I just noticed this now as I was reading this on my p105, it sits on a desk and rarely moves, and now I notice it cracking. Along with the RTC going out. No i have to send it to the states to get it fixed.

where is this place in mississauaga? name address?

toshiba usa tech support hotline was nice and fast. but then they realized i was in canada after about 30 minutes....

toshiba canada tech support told me they cant do anything. but usa tech support said that warranty coverage is worldwide...

sucks that canada has such crappy products...and then companies dont honour the warranty like they say they do...worldwide support my ass.

I just got a second P100 st7211 with lid cracks
My own also is going in for repair with the same problem

This makes it 3 repair (in 6 months same problem) and 1 repair (6 months) with exactly the same problem!!!!!

If you plan to use this computer as a portable 'laptop' - don't!!!

The lid will crack with in a year (it is covered by international warranty) - but still very annoying

Wow that is strange I have the P1005-S9312 which looks identical to the P100 and I have had no cracks or anything like that at all. Count myself lucky but I feel all your pain.

replacement lid is 45 bucks and i can do it myself if it isnt but i rather not spend anything...

Here in Poland I did not have any problems with warranty (std. 1 year international warranty) - in total 4 repairs (with exact the same problem)
I talk with the service - and it seems that it is a common problem

kinda bizare.. i will have to check the design on the lid of the P105 tommorow to see if this is a major design flaw.
