What is your opinion on this gaming laptop that performs better than the M170, according to cnet, with the 7900 GS? I personally think Toshiba hit a homerun with this one, being less than $2000 USD. It even has lights on it! LOL. Wonder how the build quality is. I know they don't have the one with the 7900GS at Circuit City, but they do have one with the Intergrated graphics, and I tihnk I might go check it out when I get a chance. I would have to say being that it only has a 4200RPM Hard drive is a disapointment.

It has lights on it like the XPS does? I wasn't aware of that. I've been waiting for it to show up at as well. I think they have it on the CompUSA site so one might be there. That's a ways from me though. I can't find the P100 or P105 on CircuitCity or BestBuy's website (I wouldn't go to the Bestbuy anyways). I want to see it mostly out of curiousity. I would more interested if it were available with the 7900GS threw Toshiba Direct. I'm dissapointed, I could of used a discount on it. I'm disspointed in the HD speed to.

It doesn't - the P105 has some "lights" near the speakers that glow blue and a glowing touchpad like the XPS, but no lighting on the case or the vents.

Compusa and CCity have the P105 lower end units, which are exactly the same built and features (externally) as P105 gaming one except the touchpad ( and i think one less USB slot). the touchpad is the same as Qozmio G35, which the stores also have so you can see that there.

I got to admit that the quality is not as good as you would expect, the keyboard flex is noticeable and so is the screen ripple test, in comparison HP dv8000t seems to be of a more solid build. but that doesnt bother me really.

I got to admit that 4200 RPM is kinda slow, but on the other hand when you have 160 Gb, there will be delays with drive communication so faster drive speed could actually slow everything down

what amazes me is that Toshiba just couldnt make a solid high end unit, like they put a good GPU in but didnt put in a higher res screen

The P100 is the customizable version of P105 so its only available from toshiba direct, and again the lack of insight, why not give an option for the 7900 card and the special touchpad

and why not make a full size keyboard with full size keys like HP, Acer, and even Gateway did

    aah well who needs perfection

Good news for you, Toshiba changed their direct sales linup, the P105-S921 is now available directly from their website. Go use your discount :)

Awesome. What do you think about this? This isn't configurable so it's not worth posting specs.

    Toshiba Satellite P105
    Normal Price: $1,999
    My price: $1699

I don't really need the 7900 GS, I think I should configure a P100 highend and see how much less it would be.

Just to point out a small fact on the 4200rpm hard drive. The platter density should negate any problems of the 4200rpm hard drive making it comparable to a 5400 RPM hard drive.

I think if you do not need the 7900 GPU then you should definetly go with P100. You will get more for the money that way especially since Toshiba has 15% off for customizing P100 and you have a coupon.

BTW, saw a low end config of the P105 or P100 today at CircuitCity. The keyboard is rather interesting with lots of half sized keys. Build seemed good. Probably better than my Dell and lightyears ahead of my previous Toshiba.

i'm considering the p105-S921 too but i'm concerned about the heat and fan noise the GPU might generate as well as the build quality

from what I have read heat and fan noise are pretty much non existant.

QFT, Toshiba is just very jumbled here...I'd buy right away if the P100 offered a 7900, then I could get the higher-res screen with it.
