Got home today to find my toshiba in a bad way. Looks like it went down a flight of stairs concreate at this.

The entire case is cracked in 2 corners bent on one end by the speakers.

The HDD is damaged makes a sound like woody woodpecker and gives disk read error. I am assuming thats a gooner.

The TFT 17inch screen is completely shattered.

The machine still turns on and charges, however now the display is a mess, all i can make out is disk read error. The rest of it is white blob. I have cover on the machine but however interested wither the`ll write it off, or attempt a repair, its going to need alot of work, as far as I can see the WLAN, MOBO, CPU DVD and speakers may be ok, The case, HDD, LCD possibly some of the mountings, plus there are alot of parts rattling around inside.

I Have repaired desktops but I am not going insde this as its under cover, but I am interested if anyone does know what else is likely to be damage or if someone can estimate the costs of repair ?

    Many Thanks

In my opinion, it is absolutely not worth repairing. Trash it and get another. How did it fall down the stairs?

thats my opionion as well I have been in touch with Topaz who work on behalf of tosh, the screen, case and hdd is around 400 pound

Im going to go through my home insurance and try and get it written off, so I may have to send it away for a independent inspection beforehand. 400 pounds is using Toshiba original parts a 3rd party may take parts from other machines to reduce parts. I have also seen replacment screens for 150, almost half the cost.

How? Basically my partner slipped on the stair fell out of her arms and bounced. So it fell a good 1 metre bouncing.

I hope your partner wasn't hurt. That would make for a bad day for both of you.

She was fine. Im gonna claim on accidental damage on home insurance. I think it may be a long and drawn out, but the machine cost alot near 2 years ago.

If a repair agent was to decide to fix it, i hear that some are allowed to recycle parts for example if they had a laptop with a good screen they may re-use some of the parts. This is the only possible way I can see them possibly attempting any kind of repair. If they are to use Toshiba parts there looking 300-350 mininum to repair the damage, and to be honest any repair could not bring it back to its pristine state. Hopefully it will be a write off and I`ll be issued with vouchers or a replacment.
