P75-A7200 Support

Greetings,

My father recently picked up a P75-A7200 for his use, he requested I load Windows 7 on it for him.

I've been working through this but not with much success, unfortunately no drivers are currently listed on Toshiba's website for this model.

Windows 7 is currently using its default for "High Definition Audio Device" and the "Generic Display" for a monitor, the sound works but i'd like to get all the proper Windows drivers installed.

Most notably, the touchpad isn't functional.

This is for Windows 7 X64 Enterprise.

I would try installing Windows 7 using the recovery disk set from a Toshiba P775 or P875 which are P75 predecessors. I think a recovery disk set from a P855 or P755 would also work. That will give you Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and all the Toshiba utilities. That may be the easiest route to go. You will not need a Windows Product Key because Windows 7 will install using Toshiba's OEM Windows Product Key. I think you only need the Windows Product Key from the bottom of the machine, plus the necessary cash, in order to upgrade to a different Windows 7 64bit version such as Windows 7 64bit Enterprise. Or, if you already have the key for that upgrade that would likely work. The key on the bottom of the P75 may not work with Windows 7 as that would be a Windows 8 Product Key. You may want to have the Windows 7 Product Key from the donor machine just in case you needed it for an upgrade. I used a P755 recovery disk set to install Windows 7 64bit on a P775 which was missing the hidden system restore partitions and it worked fine as far as I can tell except it installed the High Definition Audio Device driver instead of the RealTek Audio driver. Haven't been able to correct that yet. It did install all the necessary Intel drivers. And, all the Toshiba function keys and flash cards work as they should. Did not have to enter any Windows 7 Product Key to do that. I have been using the P755 for a long time and it has not yet hounded me for the Windows 7 Product Key on the bottom of the machine. I know it is still using the Toshiba OEM Windows Product Key as I verified that using Windows Product KeyFinder Pro. All the Toshiba machines, at least of the same model number, e.g. P755 or P775, use the same Toshiba OEM Windows Product Key. The OEM Windows Product Key may be different for a different Toshiba product series, e.g. the L640 Series which includes the L640, L640D, L645, and L654D models. I'd have to check on that again to see if that key is different than what is used for the P755 machines. I do have a L654D-S4025 and a L645D-S4056. I know those both of those have the same Toshiba OEM Windows Product Key. I don't think I could ever tolerate Windows 8. I have played with P75 Windows 8 machine at Best Buy and I will not be going there, i.e. to Windows 8, at least until the Internet forces me to do so. I do like the P75 though except for the Windows 8. However, the labels, i.e. F1, F2, F3, etc., on the function keys are very difficult to read.

 

Thought I would share and help out. Just downgraded this model laptop to Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Hopefully this is useful for some people out there! I took a lot of time to re-confirm the links to post

I hate downgrading and hunting around because the OEMs have tried to lock down their specific hardware specs, or only offer Windows 8 support now. I remember when you bought a laptop and you could do whatever you wanted with it, not secureboot+windows 8+possibly no working drivers for your OS

I just picked one of these up and cannot get WIndows 7 to even start loading to rebuild it. What steps did you go through to get it there?

 

Have to use a USB stick or other acceptable boot device. I used a USB stick with the Windows 7 installer bootable on it.

To change the boot order, hold down F10 (I think?) before the power button. It's really hard sometimes to get the boot process interrupted with those, and the workaround was just "hold down the key before you turn it on" and that seemed to work.

I also disabled "secure boot" or whatever it was called in the BIOS. If you hold down "Esc" before booting, I think, you will get a boot menu where you can change the boot order (another way to boot off USB/etc), enter the BIOS settings, etc.

Once the Windows 7 installer is running, delete all the partitions on the HD (this will make your laptop unable to restore back to Windows 8 probably, just FYI... make sure this is okay! If you're worried, something like Clonezilla can probably image your laptop ahead of time, if you think you might want to try to go back)

I guess I could try to summarize it like this:

1) Power off laptop
2) Hold down ESC key, get into BIOS setup
3) Disable secure boot (may or may not be necessary, but sounds necessary) in BIOS
4) Save BIOS settings and power off
5) Insert USB stick with Windows 7 on it
6) Hold down ESC key, select different boot order - boot off USB stick
7) In Windows 7 setup, delete all partitions like it is a fresh disk, and then partition as desired

Should work after that. See my post above for driver links...

Does anyone know if the Toshiba P75-A7200 has a trusted platform module (TPM)? I've looked all over and can't get any confirmation one way or the other. Thanks!

 

Here are some of my notes for installing Windows 7 (64bit) Pro on a new Toshiba P75-A7200.

Step 1: Made a restore USB for Windows 8 just in case
Step 2: I set the BIOS to boot from DVD (you can use any boot device). Two ways to get to BIOS. Method 1: From a shut down laptop push the start button and then press F12 until the boot menu appears, you can boot to a device or enter setup from here and change the boot device in the BIOS. Method 2: From Windows 8 click on Settings / Power. Hold the SHIFT key down and click restart. Believe it is trouble shooting and utilities, but pretty easy once yo are there to figure it out.
Step 3: I used the Toshiba utilities to wipe the HDD, took about 3 hours. You can use Method 2 from Step 2 to find the utilities.
Step 4: This part is critical, enter the Advanced section of the Bios, Advanced Settings, and set the Boot Mode to CSM Boot. It will be set to UEFI boot which will not allow you to install Windows 7. After you change the Boot Mode you can set your SATA mode also.
Step 5: Install Windows 7 normally; see above for drivers.

 

The driver list does not have the sound driver.

What do you guys use for the sound driver in Win7?

 

Where did you get driver for graphic card. It's Intel HD Graphic 4600, right?
Can you please give me a link?

Update: For anyone that has the 'static' or ac leakage issue, using an ac adapter that has 3 pins will stop this problem. I got a new 120w 3 pin power adapter from Toshiba and all is good now. The Targus model sold at Best Buy also works fine. Hope this helps someone!

i am trying to put windows 7 on my toshiba laptop that has 8. i tried to boot up to the windows 7 cd and it wont. i tried everything in the thread to get it to boot up and nothing is happening. can someone please help cause i dont like 8 at all. thank you for your time
