    HI,

i've purchased an m40-jm8 alittle over a month and i've started noticing some funny problems. Sometimes, when i leave the laptop on, but the lid closed and leave it seems to freeze or soemthing. When i come back, the screen is completely black, so i think i may be in screensaver mode or something, but when i try ot hit keys and stuff it won't come back. It'll just continue to be black. I've also had a couple of crashes for no reason... thing will just crash. I bought this thing at staples about a month ago. What should i do? will staples service it or do i have to contact toshiba? and how good is toshiba? will they replace it or i do i have send it back or something.

edit:: Its actually a jm-3 sorry its also got a crazy buzzing noise, is this normal?

When you close the lid, what happens with most laptops (and my Toshiba m30) is it goes into standby or hibernate. The screen is black and it won’t respond to any keys except for the power button. Try pressing that the next time you close and then open the lid.

Unless you bought a service plan at Staples, you have to go to Toshiba, and they’ll find you the closest service center where you can drop it off. I think they also pick it up free of charge.

What do you mean by buzzing noise? Is it coming from the screen? My laptop had the same problem and I’m getting it fixed right now.

no, its not in hiberate mode. I turned hibernate off... i set the setting so that the screeen would turn off if inactive for more than 5 mins, so the screen turns off. However, with activity it should reactivate, but mine doesn't... also, what i mean by the buzzing noise is that. In the left top corner of the laptop by the left speaker there is a high pitch buzzing noise... that is barely noticeable when listening to music and stuff, but in a quiet room can be quite annoying. I fixed this though. All i did was update the bios from 1.0 to 1.2, and so far... its gone. But, I'll see if it comes back, cuz the update was only like 2 hours ago, but so far.. nothing.
