I've had this laptop since December and found this site since then, but I've just got back into computers and ain't so knowledgable . Anyway my problem is when I put the laptop to sleep then wake it up again the speakers on top don't seem to function and only sound comes out from the speaker on the bottom on the notebook ( I believe it's the woofer) the only way I can get the 4 speakers on top to work is to restart the computer. Tried calling Toshiba tech support to remedy the problem (5x) already and all they tell me is to uninstall the drivers and restart the computer, but when I do that there's no sound and then they tell me to use the system restore which makes it go back to square one which has sound but doesn't take care of the sleep problem. I've asked them to get me over to a higher level tech support but the level 1 guy refuses and then give me a case # and rushes me off the phone. So I register here to get advice from the experts on this community please help. I'll read the posts as soon as I can.

Choose your exact model and download the audio driver for it. Uninstall your current audio driver, restart the computer, and install the newly downloaded one. -
bc135 I did that with the tech support rep from toshiba. Over the phone he told me to go to the site and download the driver and install it, I can't remember which one he told me to download and install maybe the realtek one but he walk me throught he steps we did it and then restarted and no sound so we just did a system restore to get it back the way it was. I read somewhere about toshiba warning against uninstalling bloatware, I took off napster which was on the desktop when I bought this, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my problem, and I'm scared to try and download the driver again and risk losing the sound.

Had same problem with Toshiba X205-SLI1. I just reinstalled drivers. I had the same issue with Windows default drivers being silent. You need to go to the Toshiba site and download the most up-to-date Realtek Driver. Install it once, it will remove all software and drivers from your machine. After you run the provided installer (driver_audio_realtek_26679B.exe) you must restart and run it one more time. This will initiate the new drivers, and I believe the problem is solved.

thanks for the reply counterstruck although it's past midnight here in Hawaii I'm to tired to try it so I'll try tomorrow after work. Hopefully I won't run into the problem of not having sound at all when I do it. Oh I also successfully downloaded and updated the nvidia card drivers to the 7431 drivers I think it's called, I'm still a newbie at this so I'm happy I at least accomplished that, but now when I play Oblivion elder scrolls it gets choppy when I use full settings and max the anti ailising to 8x, it never did that with the stock drivers, even at full settings and 8x aa. The new drivers are awesome with Call of Duty 4 though at max out settings on single player but multiplayer it chops a little at maxed out. I read in the gaming forum that the 17.12 is better gonna experiment with that too. Fill you in when I do the audio thing.

counterstruck I just looked and compared the latest drivers on the toshiba site for my x205 sli1 the only one I see is 6.0.1.5477 which is the one I already have, I guess the stock one that came with the notebook when I bought it so I figure it wouldn't make a difference and I think that was the one we downloaded and installed as far as the toshiba tech guy helping me out and walking me through it, and then no sound would play after downloading it, so I had to use system restore. So I'm not sure I'm understanding you on which one to install.

if you want a quick fix for this just go to control panel> sound and click the middle tab, the speakers will start working again
-
littledonny tried that it. I click on sound then I get three icons on the playback tab and three tabs. on the playback tab I have realtek hdmi output, the speaker which is checked marked then realteck digital output and all of them say on the bottom realtek high definition audio working. I'll click on each and everyone one of them while playing music but nothing made the speakers on top function, so I clicked on the speaker Icon again and clicked on properties then toward the bottom is a drop down box which says ,use this device (enable) I click on the drop down arrow and choose ,don't use this device (disable), to see if I can turn it off and on but then I lose the speaker icon and can'y choose it anymore. so I got it back by using system restore. how am i suppose to get that icon back and use the device again without using system restore? anymore ideas?

Yeah, I was wrong. The process I explained did update my driver, and did leave the speakers working, but I still have the sleep/speakers off problem. Only seems to be when I let it sleep for extended periods, didn't notice it at first. I'm also looking for a solution..

Guys, I have the same issue. I just Right Click on the speaker on the bottom right and select 'recording devices' and the speakers come right back on.
It seems to do it 100% of the time when I have itunes open...
The functionality on the new driver SUCKS. They don't have the room equalization settings and some of the other perks. So I don't know if those will help, as I am not using them and would warn others about the missing stuff.
In addition to the sound, mine often shuts down its network connection, and I need to disable/then reable the wi-fi card to get it fired back up. -
Download the drivers directly from Realtek site... The Toshiba's ones are outdated... www.realtek.com.tw

The new drivers remove some of the audio environment components. I think those are important to getting the best sound.
