So i bought a Toshiba Qosmio G25 AV-513 a year ago at Circuit City and paid over $3,000 for it. Towards the end of July, the laptop was sent to Toshiba, which replaced all the fans and the heatsink, seemed to work fine, besides the few dead pixels they caused. The laptop would get very hot, all I know is if I touched the bottom or back, it burnt my hand. But that seemed to be fixed, until I noticed the case was warped, pretty badly(picture included). Problems started appearing after this, the optical drive read media fine, but could not produce any, at all. The screen would flicker off and on. The touchpad scrapes off, yes, it scrapes off like paint, making it almost useless. The touchpad also looses connectivity, I guess you could say, and the only way to fix it is to smack it, which is rather funny actually. The hard-drive now clunks. The fans sounds like rocks going through a lawnmower. The system is slower than my parents 1.2GHz P4 with 256MB of RAM. A system error message constantly pops up saying to turn off the computer immediately and return it. To say the least It's off to some place in California to be fixed through the circuit city warranty. I can honestly say I would never buy anything from Toshiba again. And here is the picture, sorry for the poor quality. And no I don't usually set it on my bed, it just happened to be the easiest way to take the picture.

how could it be slower then a 1.2ghz pentium 4 when they never made a 1.2ghz pentium 4 the slow p4 made was a 1.3. but yeah it sounds like you got a lemon. but it says you getting a macbook pro which is a REAL computer and now you should have no problems.

holy crap... the warping... I've never seen anything like that. It's not that Toshiba's a bad manufacturer but woah; how the hell did that thing pass quality control

Wow, sounds like you have some serious overheating issues there! Sorry to hear that. Can your cpu be undervolted and have you considered a cooling pad?
-
Oh. Maybe it is 1.3 then. But yeah, the Qosmio is slow, and they don't know why. The guy said they were going to gut it, including the case and replace everything. So they will probably ending up letting me choose a replacement.

I was JUST going to post a question to the forums about toshiba's drop in quality lately. I had a customer very recently who had a warped toshiba laptop like that, apparently one of the hinge points had broken free and had locked in the 'closed' position which basically angled the screen up and to the left. In your case it looks like the chassis body itself has a manufacturing defect... Is that a post-return defect or do you think you had never noticed it before?
EDIT: Maybe that 'rocks in a lawnmower' noise are the fans grinding against the chassis innards since it's so warped. I wonder if it might be all the heat warping the case, though I seriously hope not... Maybe that explains the lack of performance- heat damaged components? -

Let's face it. I think Toshiba has seriously lost it. I am extremely disappointed with the Satellite M50/M55 I got last year. I regretted so much I wished I had gotten the dv1000 back then (but it had integrated graphics, the M55 had dedicated graphics).
None of the new Toshiba laptops feel as solid as they used to and they look dated even before they're released. The product feels cheap and my Satellite heats up like an oven. Battery life is below industry standards (only 2 hours with undervolting). I wish Toshiba puts out more high end premium models rather than catering to the lower end of the market. The new Tecra A8 range seriously needs an upgrade if it is to become the widescreen M5 (only new notebook that feels decent). -
I think cycloneguy2618 toshiba underperforms cause its getting so hot. Cpu might be throtteling or GPU.
I bought a toshiba p105-9722 and wow this thing is solid! doesnt get hot at all and i hardly hear the fans even while gaming.
its 2ghz core2duo.
Nvidia 7900gs 256mb.
17" 1440x900.
Battery life while surfing on highest brightness is 2.30 hours.
Go to nvidia display / power mizer and select balanced. Check if ur laptop runs faster. -

cycloneguy2618 - I'm sorry to hear that you got a bad machine but you know what, even the best manufactures put out a lemon or two (Honda & Toyota have) but that’s unfortunate for you. The last job I had I was issued a Dell laptop and I thought that it was a total piece of you know what. My dad has tried different notebooks and he has had problems with all of them: Sony Vaio, Compaq and a Toshiba. My ex had a HP Pavilion and it gave out on her because of the power connector at the back of the machine was loose and it cooked her motherboard.
I’m on my third Toshiba and I don’t want to try another laptop maker. My first two had absolutely no problems with them and I was very hard on them, dropped them several times. My most recent laptop seems to have a slight sound issue which I’m going to have fixed through the warranty.
I have friends that swear on their Apple PowerBooks but they have mentioned that they run very hot. The Lenovo ThinkPads have gotten excellent reviews but they are very pricy for what you get on them and I don’t like how they look.
Don’t give up on Toshiba just yet. Hope it all works out.

Still waiting to here their plan of action. Hopefully I'll find out this week.
I do agree that the reason the fans are making that dreaded noise is because of the warping.
Also, since I'm using my parents computer(which by the way is a 1.8GHz). It does seem faster than my Qosmio, and it only has 256MB of RAM. -
I got it back today. Unfortunately I can't say I'm pleased. So far everything seems to be working decently, the fans still make odd noises. The thing that bothers me most is there are several dead pixels along the bottom of the screen, along with a diagonal line. I know these weren't there when I sent it off because they are very noticeable. I think I'm going to call them back.
-
So the system slows again and the media drive STILL does not burn anything. So I call back and explain to the guy whats going on. He said the burning issue wasn't in the report, but I was told that it would be because I made sure to ask when they made the report. He was rude and said they just write down what they are told. He then trys to tell me iTunes music store purchases could be as bad as something you downloaded on Limewire, because I don't even know why he said that because I don't use limewire. Then he asked me to reinstall the OS for like the 6th time!! Which the techs just got done doing. I really don't know what to do.

Update
It's going back in because now all the fans broke, and the touchpad is coming off more making it useless almost, it looses connectivity all the time. Should be interesting. I can say I'm done with Toshiba. -
Looks like a lemon. But that's just ridiculous. Just one question though, is it on a bed or something? Laptops tend to overheat when they're sitting on a blanket or something.
-
No, it isn't. It's sitting on a desk. But I can hear something moving around when i tilt the laptop, some thing is definitely loose.

Jess. It is enabled. Also I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times to no avail. I'll just have to continue to use my mouse. No big deal.

I would like to say when I had my Toshiba M55, I had absolutely no problems with it and was very pleased to have used it, no build problems whatsoever, it actually felt more solid than the HP DV1000s I had seen in stores. It surprised me since I've heard so many complaints about their build quality but I had no problems with mine.
And I've heard so many good things about Fujitsu for instance and their build quality but my P5020D was poorly built for instance.
In my experience, I always am wary of any company and whatever product they have, no matter how good or bad their reputation is. -
I'm generally displeased with my Qosmio G35-AV650. It has moderate build quality, perfectly suitable for a $1000 or even a $1200 laptop... only problem was that it cost $3,000. The screen hinge has gotten so loose that the screen wobbles if the table it's sitting on moves even the least.
Poor Toshiba Quality
