Hi,
I've just bought a used Portégé 4000 (great little machine), but I can't seem to get the wireless Lan to work. WinXP SP2 is installed. In configuration/system the mini-pci wlan card from Lucent/Agere shows up OK. It's not the first time i've conf. a wlan, but on this machine it just won't work. Is it a driver issue (i've installed the winXP drivers from the Toshiba site, no result)? i've tried client manager (complains there is no wlan card, no result). is the antenna connected wrong? Is the mini-pci card defective? I think the WEP, channel etc. settings are OK, but I'm getting nowhere like this

What wireless router are you trying to connect the notebook to? Here's a couple things you can try on the router & notebook.
1. Disable all security (Encryption)
2. Enable SSID Broadcasting
Disabling the encryption is just a troubleshooting step. If it starts to work, re-configure & re-enable the encryption.
Enabling the SSID Broadcasting will allow some NIC's to see the router. I personally prefer to have SSID Broadcasting disabled on my network. I used to have a Microsoft router & USB wireless adapter, this did not work with SSID Broadcasting disabled.
Make sure you're trying to connect to your own or a friends wireless router and not to a hotspot or to a wireless signal you just picked up. Some hotspots or wireless signals may have encryption enabled and therefore will not allow you to connect without the correct key.

I'm using an Apple Airport Extreme base station and have a working solution for an Apple Powerbook G4, an Asus M6Ne, and a Toshiba e800 PDA. I'm a bit reluctant to disable all security because that could turn out in me having to reconf. all above machines as well. But maybe you're sugestion is the best way to proceed. I'll give it a go next weekend.

Thanks for pointing me to the router/acces-point. One of the safeguards in my acces-point is a list of alowed MAC ID's. I had entered the MAC ID of the portégé's wlan adapter but forgot to update the new settings in the acces-point. Thats fixed now, et voila ... wlan on the Portégé works like a charm now.

Glad to see everything working for you. [
