Howdy folks. Been racking my brain trying to come to a conclusion on which laptop to purchase.
I'm interested in the Portege R705-P35 save for a few deficiencies. The most important is the fact that it doesn't have a docking port, apparently. This is crucial since it would be my primary work laptop and would require connecting to an external monitor/keyboard & mouse.
I was hoping that someone more familiar with the laptop could offer me some suggestions. Is there any way to get this laptop docked as I want? Can I use the wireless intel display technology in some fashion? what about the keyboard and mouse? Or, anyone used a "dynadock" wireless dock? Seems like another alternative too, if they work well.
Lastly, I now that I could purchase a R700 instead, however, after configuring one on the Toshiba website with the docking port, intel wireless display tech, it ends up costing hundreds more! Best Buy has the r705 for $779 and at that price point, I think it's a great deal...
Thanks in advance.

I went through similar deliberations when I eventually decided to buy the R705-P25 from BestBuy. The R705 price-size-performance ratio is tough to beat. Losing the docking station connection is disappointing but not critical. Toshiba's USB Dynadock ($109.99) will accomplish everything you are trying to do EXCEPT you will not have access to USB 3.0 ports.

I'll bet that the R705 and Dynadock are still substantially cheaper than the R700 alternatives with the dedicated docking station. If you don't mind losing the USB 3.0 ports, you can save yourself quite a bit of money. I know I don't have any regrets.
One final note: The Intel Wireless Display is fantastic but the latency issue (1-2 seconds) would cause frustration. It is getting better but I find that WI-DI is best for transmitting video, music, PowerPoint, and other applications that you want to share your screen. But when you start typing, it falls behind and you would quickly default to a wired connection.
