    Hey guys,

I just got the R835-p81 from Amazon. It is an awesome machine, everything that I wanted in the lightest package except for an SSD but that is an easy fix.

I have been using it for a few days now.

I mostly use it on battery with 40% brightness, but 3 times over the last 3 days, I saw screen contrast (not sure if that's the right terminology for it) change slowly, remain weird for 30 seconds, and then slowly change back. When it changes, it looks like the screen turns more yellowish, colors look really washed out. The brightness doesn't change though, only the colors on the screen. While it was happening, I was able to change the brightness manually, but the colors still remained washed out for 30 seconds or so, and then slowly changed back. And the change is always smooth, at first you think there is something wrong with your eyes. I was rubbing my eyes in disbelief, but it wasn't my eyes because my old xps was sitting right next to it and its colors looked fine :)

It's a little hard to explain. I am not sure if it's a graphics setting (dynamic adjusting), a software glitch or a screen defect.

I would appreciate any and all help. I will watch it for another week or so, if persistent and I cannot fix it, I'll ask Amazon for a replacement I guess.

Since no one answered, I am assuming only I had the problem and that it wasn't due to a setting or anything.

    Replacement requested from Amazon

Hopefully second time will be a charm :)

came across this thread when looking for a solution to the same issue. found the answer on the toshiba forum :

Protege R835-P50 Screen dims with a darker backgro... - Toshiba Forums

1)right click on decktop and click on graphic properties
    2) On advanced mode, go to POWER
    3)Change Power Source to battery
    4) UnCHECK THE "Display Power Saving Technology" or you can increase the quality a little bit so you can get more battery life!
