I realize this is TL; DR but I would really REALLY appreciate some assistance.

I recently purchased this laptop after wanting it for awhile and now I'm really confused on what's wrong with it.

I honestly know very little about computer hardware and the like so I have no clue what's going on here.

Maybe my expectations were too high but I know it's not suppose to be moving so slowly. I have an old HP nc6400 and it's missing keys, the fan roars like a giant, portable box fan in the house and if the power cord is touched at all it shuts down because the battery is dead but for being always plugged in. BUT this laptop moving like lightening compared to the Toshiba.

Now I'm very annoyed and angry that I let the return date pass me by from Office Max just a little over 2 weeks now I'm stuck with it. I know I could take it somewhere but I'm worried it'll cost a lot to fix the problem. I'm thinking it's a glitch on the laptop's part so that's under the factor warranty right? I've always had no issues within the 1st few years of computers so I never really paid attention to the warranties.

If I take it to my local computer guy and he diagnosis it with hundreds of dollars worth of work to fix it, that's a factory defect still under warranty right? I've never had to use the warrenty and I purchased an extended 3 year one from OfficeMax. I haven't done a thing to it. No documents, one simple download app, nothing. So does that mean if there's some glitch or issues that's covered under the warranty and I don't have to pay a thing and/or they'll replace/fix it for me?

I intended to purchase it from the Microsoft Store but they no longer carried it and I wanted small 14" or under and an optical drive an Microsoft only had the Z as of the past 8 months so I found it at Office Max. I paid for the removal of the bloatware but the Office Max guy told me to keep EVERYTHING labeled Toshiba on the computer because removing all of that could cause issues.

I was under the impression from reading snippets online that "bloatware" was games and brand labeled programs and such. But they installed McAfee and took off the book apps and places and a few games but that's it.

It was already moving slow as molasses when I'm online even before I clicked on the BIOS update that was issued from August. I don't completely get what the BIOS update is but I did it assuming it would correct the slow moving issues.

I doubt it's the internet connection because it detected it just fine and this laptop and the old HP are side by side with one literally on life support moving like crazy fast and a brand, spanking new one taking 20 seconds to load pages and searches and videos.

I have pretty much nothing installed on it. Just the Kindle for PC app. Even before I downloaded that it moved slow like crazy online.

This is the laptop I wanted but right now, despite the money, because of the way it's moving doing simple stuff like Google "door" online and it taking 20+ seconds to field search results, I'm about ready to chunk it down my wood stairs.

I've read that it could be internet issues and to call my provider or something like that but a laptop under the same network sitting on the table next to it is fine and dandy. There's obviously nothing wrong with my internet right?

Should I take it to my computer guy tomorrow? Or BB geek squad or something to figure out with the problem is?

Just to be clear, the internet seems to be slow on your Toshiba Portege? Your not noticing any slowdowns of installed programs, like Word ?

If it is just the internet, try plugging your laptop directly into the modem or router using an internet cord and turning the wireless internet off [should be a physical switch to turn the wireless off]. If the internet cord does help with the speed, then I would take a guess that your Wireless-Card could be failing, a badly designed card, or possibly the drivers for the wireless are corrupted.

Also, make sure your not in ECO-MODE, that may also contribute to the slow downs.

Here's your laptop model's support page: Model Content Page
Here's the product specifications; which lists all the 3rd party programs which are safe to remove. You do not have to remove them all, nor remove any of them: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/portege_R835-P92.pdf

Keep us posted with any updates.

    Thank you for replying.

I did have it in ECO mode. Like I said above I did some BIOS update that popped up a few weeks ago. I don't completely understand what it does but in my skimming forums and reviews and stuff it seemed that everyone always did a BIOS update when one popped up so I thought it was something I had to do too.

I think my fan started roaring noticably right after I did that. When I switch to ECO mode it stops but it does move slower. The internet and programs like Word. Switching off ECO makes them move like they should. Now I want them to move fast but this fan noise is annoying.

I've looked up switching back and getting rid of the BIOS update but I'm confused on how to do it and some disc and downloading a program I need.

Right now my CPU temperature not in ECO mode is at well over 50% and now crawling to 60 then dropping back down to about 52 then and back and forth up to 60 then 62 then back down to 50 something. In ECO mode it hovered around 46-48%. Before the BIOS update I believe it was around 36-37%. But it was moving slow online so when the BIOS update popped up I remembered it as being something 'important" I always saw people mentioning so I did it.

Fan speed is at 48% and Internal temperature is at 45%

Those seem way too high considering I only have two Firefox windows open. No movies, games, Microsoft programs Word, excel, etc open.

If it runs faster in programs and internet off ECO mode I'll do that but this fan and the bottom getting slightly warm on 2 open tabs isn't going to fly.
