I recently upgraded my Z830 to W8 on a new crucial mSATA drive and 10Gb of RAM, it flies!

however I cant seem to get the flashcards Fn key display at the top of the screen to work??

the Fn keys themselves actually work, just no osd of them??

on the plus side finally have the volume change displayed when you use the Fn volume adjust :)

Did you use the Toshiba Win8 upgrade information/drivers when upgrading? Perhaps the Flash Cards driver needs to be reinstalled. I'm pretty sure you z830 is supported.

I also found this information: Re: Can't turn on wireless capability! - Toshiba Forums

Good luck and keep us posted with any updates.

I didn't adhere to the tosh guide no, I simply replicated the W7 install I did from clean with the W8 drivers/utilities I wanted to replicate that old W7 install and I used the same sequence as well. on the W7 install the flash cards worked perfectly, on W8, nothing!

I have since tried the tosh update utility within the new W8 build, its installed all the other rubbish I didn't want but no joy on the flashcards display!

anyone else got it to work???

    cheers

    Ben

its weird as the tosh website lists it as a download component of the value added even under w8, however it doesn't work!

the fn key does and I think its a W8 display that then shows the info, so volume and brightness bars show on screen which is an improvement and if you use the wireless button (main reason i'm not happy as I used to use it on W7 to select wireless, Bluetooth, both on, all off) no just shows nothing or 'flight mode'

also the backlit keyboard now times out on none eco mode, so not on all the time, on a time delay, which I think is a bios function as I think it did it on W7 under last bios revision I did other day before the W8 upgrade

oh and for info my WEI HDD score has gone from 6.6 to 7.8 on W7 and same on 8
