Ok, so was tired of not being able to watch HD DVD's because of the the Toshiba player needing the stock Toshiba drivers, and was told by multiple people that the Cyberlink Power DVD Ultra player was the ticket to using new drivers and watching HD DVD's... so, spent the $100 (ouch!) and just loaded it, and BAM! Says I've got an invalid driver! And won't play the movie... program loads, but when i click play, no good.... anybody know what's up? That's the whole dang reason i bought the software, and had several sources say they use it and it works beautifully.... help! Using 169.01 drivers
Thanks

You know I found out the same thing about PowerDVD and it is all related to how Vista handles driver signing, I finally gave up and formatted the hard drive this weekend and installed XP and everything including PowerDVD work flawlessly no matter which drivers I use. In my opininon it is aVista caused problem and in some part the PowerDVD works in Vista.

ha, wish i'da known that!.... did any drivers work for ya other than the Toshiba ones? I coulda sworn you said you were using newer drivers and also had Power DVD working great.... as you were the inpiration I needed to spend the $$$ and get it.... did ya ever get it working with Vista? I am enjoying Vista, and so far haven't had any problems thus far once I did a clean install and did some tweaking.....

When I updated to 169.01, neither Toshiba's player nor PowerDVD would play HD DVDs. I modified the inf as he suggested, re-installed the driver and both work fine now. Toshiba evidently makes specific modifications to the inf file in their drivers. When you upgrade you have to make sure those changes remain in place.

Oh yeah? I was under the impression that you had to make those changes with the Toshiba player, but when using Power DVD, you could use any driver without having to modify the inf file... otherwise I'da just kept the Toshiba player and saved the $100!!! I figured in the long haul it'd be worth it to not have to keep modifing inf files so i bought the Power DVD player, but now if i still gotta keep modifying the inf files, I wasted $100... well dangit... that sucks
I gotta keep updating drivers though, that's half the fun! just didn't want to have to keep hacking inf files!! -
, but the program that I found out too late worked with any of the newer drivers even on my Sony FZ180E was WinDVD 8 HD/BD version, I thought PowerDVD would too but when I tried using non whql certified drivers it would fail to play any movies. I just got tired of vista so with XP I don't need to worry about any of those stupid headaches.

yeah, I just was trying to find a player that would play HD DVD's and I could use the latest and greatest Nvidia drivers with... thought that power DVD was it, and the problem was with the Toshiba player software... so you're saying XP lets you use any driver, including 169.01? Wonder why? Anybody know why Vista won't let me play an HD DVD, but XP would? No hard feelings though man, dealin with this crap is half the battle.... and thanks for any help or feedback you've given or will give

Curious Mario, are there any downsides you've run across by changing the inf file? Seems like copying over the new one with the old would lead to some problems or lack of some feature of the new driver.... or maybe I just don't have a clue what this inf file actually does.... Just worried that if I start hacking away at new inf files from new drivers by overwriting with old stuff, I'll cause even more problems.... ? -

Ok, so, used the link and modified the inf files per instructions, and it actually worked! Whoda thought? ha So, running the 169.01's and using Power DVD Ultra with Vista... BEAUTIFUL ha.... watching transformers as I type this ina window! So, guess I coulda done it with the toshiba player, but have a question.... what kind of CPU load are you guys getting running the player with highest quality settings... Using Power DVD with highest quality with Transformers HDDVD, I'm only using about 30% CPU load.... thought it would be higher than that! So far haven't had a single skip or stutter, moving or resizing or anything, playing perfectly.... so, question is, does the Toshiba player do as well? Is Power DVD worth it? Good player I gotta say from playin with it a bit, but, is also expensive! And I sure thought there'd be no driver modifying.....

WinDVD 8 is included Toshiba X205 product specs.

Well I've been running the 163.75 drivers with no issues using my .inf copy trick. Until today!. All the HD-DVDs I have still work but for one new one: 2001 A Space Odyssey. It launches fine, and even starts to play for about 5 secs. Then the video gose black and the sound stops. But the player is still "playing". No idea whats up yet.
