Well, I wouldn't say that the Satellite M40 has spectacular build quality, but it isn't as horrid as some people say it is. I'd give it a 6-7 out of 10 on a rating scale. If you need a more durable solution, look at the Toshiba Tecras, and if you want to veer away from Toshiba, look at some IBM Thinkpads/Asus Laptops.

Ive had my M40 for half a year and i am very satisfied with the build quality. The hinges arent that sturdy and there is a little flex but other then that its just like the day i bought it. Its durable, ive taken it on trips and i have no problem with quality.

I like the build quality of the M50 a little bit more than the M40, as it utilizes more ridgid plastic in its construction than the M40 does. Still not specacular, but I'd give it a 7-7.5 out of 10.
