 Hi, I recently Bought A toshiba Laptop model: A100/105, Anyway Its features are 1GB of Ram memory, 160GB HDD, 15.4 Tru-Brite Screen, Genuine Windows Media Center Edtion 2005 Etc; My problem was that at first I tried To record a cd-r like I usually always do In my other laptop, But when it was like at 52% it suddenly stopped, dont know why, but then I tried To record Once again using Nero (At first I used Sonicstage 3.0) and Nothing It didnt burn, Then I tried to install Windows XP Professional SP2, since I have more experience Using Pro than Media Center, The media Center slowers your Computer down to, When I checked the compatibility it said that it was not compatible with my DVD-ram (Matshita UJ-841S) so now im stuck in the problem that I dont know whats possibly wrong, I went to Device Manager etc; even tried to update the driver but nothing, so Ive heard That I had to Install another driver for my PC is that True? or if not what do I have to do?????????? Please Help, My problem is With my Driver I even went to Google and typed in my driver I found out that there are a lot of discussions regarding my DVD Ram........So if some one knows, please help me I would apreciated, Thanks

Hi, I have the same one as you and it works fine when it burns CDs and DVDs. My one problem is that Vista Upgrade Advisor tells me I have to remove the DVD-RAM driver before installing Vista and I have no clue as to how that would affect the DVD/CD writer's performance.

But You started Burning right away? When you turn on your PC does it says something with RAMASST? it says something with Enable cd recording on mines, I tried Burning but when it reaches 50% it stops, then I tried to upgrade to Windows XP SP2, and it says its not compatible with That DVD Ram, do I have to Format the drive first? or is there a Hardware Problem? I even Recover my Laptop To an Out of Box State (Like It came) so If you can help me............

No, mine works fine. I don't get any error messages and it burns CDs and DVDs just fine. But I'm interested in this model because it's the same one I have. I hope someone could answer your questions.

I would suggest you post in the Optical Drive forum at http://club.cdfreaks.com/

It's probably the best place to get info on cds and dvds.

    good luck!

Check that the IDE channel has not gone into PIO mode. Read here.

The switch can take place without any warning and the computer's performance is then crippled when the optical drive is in use.
