    Hi all,
I have a Toshiba Tecra A2. After starting the machine for several minutes, It stops running and I cannot see anything on screen. It is dimmed by lots of strange lines. But when I forced restart it, it runs normally.

I have added a new DDRam 512 5 months ago, but this problem has just appeared for a month.

So, can any one help me to solve the prob?

    Tks a lot,

    List of possible issues:
    - corrupted video driver
(visit your video card manufacturer's website for drivers)

    - faulty RAM chip
(try removing the module, cleaning the contacts and re-inserting it)

    - depending on how long ago you purchased your laptop, the screen may be faulty

    - dust is another possibility

It's possible that none of this info is useful whatsoever... if that's the case, then you can at least rule out the RAM as the source of the problem by removing the chip, starting up your computer, and searching for the lines. If the problem is gone, you know its the RAM, and if not, then you'll have to keep sifting through the possible problems.

Visit Toshiba's website and search their Technical Bulletin area to see if this is a widespread issue with your particualar model.

    Tks very much,
After forced restarting, the laptop runs very well, anything appear. The such problem occurrs only often after the first starting on day. I have already cleanned the Ram contact. Do you know which faulty is most possible?

    Best regards.

It may very well have been an issue with the RAM. Since you still have the 1 year manufacturer's warranty on the chip, try running a burn-in test overnight to verify it's integrity. Such testing software can be found on:
    www.download.com
    www.microsoft.com
or you can just google it.
