So I bought a Satellite U305-7467 from Costco. Was really amazed with it at first but all of a sudden (after restoring the files from my old harddrive), it won't recognize my Touchpad or my Optical drive. I re-installed the drivers and although it sees both pieces of hardware there, they will not work. I also keep getting an error for my Optical Drive saying windows failed to load the driver. I can't seem to find a solution. When I plug in an USB mouse, that works fine.
I am thinking of exhanging it for a newer one at Costco because I think I may have gotten a lemon.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Any tips on resolving this before I exchange it tomorrow?
This is my first Toshiba laptop and now I'm nervous. How reliable is Toshiba in the laptop world?

I'd guess the file restgoration did it. What exactly did you do? It's always best to do a brand new install of windows for a new machine. Data copying is fine but much else is a bad idea.

I purchased the same machine in August 2007. Put it in for service in September and recevied it bach November 7, 2007. They replaced touchpad assembly and I used it one night and went to use it the next and no luck.
I think they need to dig into system issues I do not think this is a hardware issue. I am going to chase Toshiba to top and get a refund. -
I had the same problem. See this Yahoo Answer:

Answerer #2 (the one beginning "I assume you're running Vista?") fixed it for me.
